Hello!
I would like some advice as I am thinking of getting some more guinea pigs and therefore need a bigger hutch. We have looked at the two tier ones with ramps and have done some research about them. We are not sure whether they are OK as we have heard that the ramps can be a problem for guinea pigs.If we get one it would probably be the one attached but we would just like some extra advice. We have also seen the fleece ramp tunnels and are thinking of using one if we get the hutch, would that make a difference?

I've got a very similar hutch, the boys were a bit nervous about using the ramp at first. However, I've since made my own ramp which is much sturdier, longer (so the slope is more gentle for them) and has a bannister/wall along the edge so no risk of falls. Also, I did let them have a bit of a practice on it before it went into the hutch, with veggie rewards for reaching the top! Now they have no problem using it, so unless you have particularly old pigs or ones with disabilities I'm sure it would be fine. A tunnel ramp would probably be a great idea if you're still a little concerned.

Please bear in mind that, when working out the size of your accommodation, it is only the floor space that counts.

I have a 6x2ft 2 storey hutch. The maximum I would ever keep in it is 4

I have pictures of my ramp and ramp tunnels - will try to find them later today

they are fine if the piggies will use the ramp, and if the ramp is made safer with tunnels like you've mentioned. the one thing to maybe consider when buying a double is the age of the piggies because older piggies usually need one level accommodation :)
