Hi,

Just wondering if anyone knows the cause of two shaded poop?

A few of Seth's poops have been both dark and light brown lately and the only diet change is his pellets as he was sharing Dean's Excel Dualcare for a couple of weeks.

Thanks

Craig

It is depending on what is eaten and how it is compacted down in the poos. Nothing to worry.

Great, I kind of thought that but thought I'd check :)

The one you need to look out for is your poos looking watery, thin or are shapeless (cow pads); large bits of veg in are also a sign of a mild imbalance. Check for bloat or pain in the belly area. Switch to weighing once daily at the same time (like before their breakfast or dinner) to check the food intake and step in with offering additional top up food if they have lost over 50g in a short space of time. Take your piggies off fresh food for day. If the poos are not starting to normalise within 24 hours, see a vet.

If your guinea pig has runny diarrhea or is completely off food and looking very sorry for yourself, you need see a vet promptly. Again, take your vet off any fresh food and start syringe feeding asap. Add dioralyte to the water you offer to help prevent dehydration. Your prompty support care can make all the difference.

My piggies too! Half dark brown, half light brown. I’m worried. I don’t know why it is happening... and yes, I washed my hands thoroughly after taking this pic. Any tips?

Hi!

It could be a very minor tummy upset. Keep an eye on your piggy but do not worry at this stage. If you are in the UK; then the current hot weather can influence eating and drinking habits; as soon as it is cooler, things will go back to normal again.
