Two really better than one?!

I've always just had one piggy at a time. My boy Max passed away recently, and I just bought a baby last night. Should I get her a friend? I play with my pigs a lot and they get plently of attention, but I was wondering if she really needs a friend? Opinions please?

I would, while she is little she can bond with you of course but pigs need someone of their own kind to interct with and you can't always be around. That said I have 1 lone boar and he gets all the attention and is very happy, but I would like a baby for him in the spring time. :)

Yes I also think two is better because, as SunshineandTwinkle has said, you can not be with them all the time, and piggies do like to interact with other pigs. It's lovely to see them running around together during floor time, snuggled up together to sleep, and climbing up the bars together at feeding times :smitten:
 
Yes, I believe that piggies are a lot happier when they are living with others (or near others) :)

While she is young she should accept another guinea pig quite easily so it is definately worth introducing another O0 Although you are around her a lot and they enjoy human interaction it just isn't the same as them interacting with another guinea pig :D
 
I would say two is better than one as well, it is lovely to see piggies snuggle together. O0 Unless there are circumstances where the piggy just likes to be alone, I would also get two or a group.
 
Okay, well it looks like I'm going to go buy one of her friends that she was housed with today. I have two gerbils together (also females) and they're so fun to watch when they play and sleep. Thanks everyone!
 
Yep, 2 is better as they do different things when they have company ::) of the same sex ;D

But, they dont get as bored as easily either whilst your not handling them 0:)
 
i think you made right decision, i was in this situation when i bought my girl and then realised it would be best to get her a friend. shes completely changed now shes got her friend lol seems so much happier and they never stop popcorning over each other :D
 
2 is good, but I find 6 is even better! Lol!

Seriously though, I have a lone piggy at the moment and he's unhappy. :( I'm not always here to give him constant attention and I worry about him getting lonely. I wish he had a friend. :(
 
I bought her a friend. When I first put them in together the new one chased her and looked like she was trying to nip her. SHe did it a couple more times but it looked like she was head butting her and squealing at her. Now they are currently huddle together under the big igloo so I take it they like each other now. Hah. I've named the first girl, who is Abynessian (sp?) Remy. She is mostly a dark brown with random white patches. The one I bought today I've properly named Ella after Cinderella. The one side of her face is a dark brown kinda dirty look, the other is a very light butterscotch color. Depending on what side you look at she could be cinder looking or beautiful. Cute huh?
