I have a bonded pair and a single, all female, from a rescue. I had intended trying to bond the single girl with another but she, sadly, died although the vet was very understanding and did all he could and I fed her with antibiotics twice a day for a week. The single, Emilia, came to me with the pair and she has been in the same run with them in the garden this week. Problem I have is that she doesn't appear to be eating very much and I think she may be lonely, hence the plan to bond her. I don't know anything about her background, eg: whether she's always been alone. Now they're all in together today, in a neutral indoor run, with lots of food, no hidey corners, two separate water bottles. The outdoor hutch is very big, with an upstairs and downstairs so they'll be able to get away from each other if they want but I'd like to be a bit more confident that they'll get on before I put them in there. So, my questions are : is it wise trying to bond a single with an established pair? How long should I give it before perhaps getting another single and trying to bond the two singles ? Thanks for any advice.

Whether they get on or not, depends very much on the character combination and whether it balances out. All you can do is try and see whether it works out or not, and then take it from there. There is a rescue in Gretna, called Becklen; it would be your closest decent rescue.

Please weigh your bereaved girl daily and make sure that she is OK. if necessary, offer her hand feed.

Thanks Wiebke. Helen at Becklen is a friend and my piggies have all come from her rescue. I have read the info at the links you kindly posted for me - I guess I just need constant reassurance !
