Hi,

My sister has two boars who have been living together for 8/9 months with no fighting or trouble at all BUT they are also silent.... No wheeking, no squeaking and don't even rumble when startled. They are perfectly healthy just very, very quiet. Is there anything that comes to mind that might be wrong with them? I have two girls who are very chatty so it's strange to see such quiet guinea pigs. I've never experienced this before.

Mine are 1 year old and up until yesterday (when they fell out big time) they were quiet unless they were seperared. They are very much that they like to be together but then pretty well ignore each other when together (except for yesterday!)

How confident are they? Mine were quieter until they gained confidence and now they wheek about everything. You could try playing guinea pig sounds or make wheeking noises and hand feed them veggies if you really wanted to try and make them talk. I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with them, they're just quiet pigs.

Each piggy is different, and as long as they are healthy then I wouldn't worry :)

Some piggies take months/years to find their voice (and some have never been heard squeaking), while others never really seem to be quiet!

My Jerry is quite vocal, and Frankie and Marley only really started 'chatting' at around 1 year old.

They are like people - every one is different and unique :)

Well that's a relief. It's strange though because one of them (George) sounds like he's trying to squeak but it's just air.... where Toby doesn't make any noise at all no matter what. I didn't really think it would be a serious problem I just wondered if it's a normal thing :) Thank you everyone :)

Amelia does the whispery squeak like George, it's nothing to worry about. I had a piggy called Stripes who I didn't hear a peep out of for the first three weeks then one day he let out the most almighty wheek and I never heard him wheek again after that.
4 of mine are big wheekers and I'm sure the others don't bother so much because their making so much noise!

My Marty Pig was silent for around three years and when he found his voice he was very quiet. Some piggies are just quiet

My girls were absolutely hush hush when we first got them. They would only come out of their shell when you put on music or turned on the vacuum cleaner! It was like any noise you made that masked their own made them relax! They are probably just trying to be stealthy if they are a tiny bit shy. My girls soon learnt though that if dinner was even an hour late that making a huge fuss got them whatever they wanted! haha. Give them a little time and they'll soon learn that making noise wont get them in trouble and that its useful for getting treats and yummies!

A pneumatic drill has less decibels than our piggies at food time - they all go absolutely crazy except the 4 Himalayan piggies.
I've often wondered why they don't shriek at me to be quicker...they just wait patiently at the front of the pens...
Doesn't worry me as they do make a rabble when playing, and Zhen (huspig) makes the lowest and longest rumbling noise out of all the piggies when strutting his stuff with his ladies :))
Bizarre :(|)
