Whats the chances of them bonding?

I know its probably not ideal, but can it work? Mine is living on his own at the moment, and the other one is one i found out about who is living with a rabbit!

Thanks xx

if the personalitys are submissive in one pig and dominant in the other providing you give them extra space than required i don't see why it wouldnt work,it will probably take longer before you can put them together full time though x

It could work.. but at 6 months they're kind of adolescent, so it might be tricky. All you can do is try! Some will, some won't - and sometimes age doesn't matter, as above -it's personalities!

Thanks everyone, went to try get this gp today after work, but he had given it to someone else. mallethead Hope it'll be ok. Explained you can't house rabbits and guinea pigs together. Very frustrated tonight, was willin to give it a go with them both. So, another night alone for wee Bramble.......:(

That's a shame. He'd probably be best with a baby boar, i.e 4-6 weeks old, if one comes up - have you tried putting a 'wanted' post on the Guinea pigs wanted section?

Thanks Sophie

Will do that, just never bothered because i appear to be quite far from the rescues i read about on here, worth a try though :) xx

Hi everyone!

I´m new to the forum. I´ve only had my piggie for about 2 months but he was already 4 months when I got him.
He´s been good so far but my work timetable has changed and I´m away for longer in the afternoon. Now, I know they´re not people but leaving a little animal alone for 5 hours seems bad. I was hoping I could get a little play friend for Rafa. (plus I´d love to have two anyway!)
The question is...am I better off trying him with a boar the same age or a younger pig?
Any ideas?

it is a shame but i agree with Sophie,a baby is a much better option, and they would have time to bond before they turn manly which is a much better ideaxxx

ok as you have seen my post above,a friend the same age can work but it also depends how experienced you are with bonding not just the pigs in question,
in your case you do sound fairly new to GP's correct me if your not,i would be getting a boar anywhere up to 10 weeks old,the younger the better really as you are almost guaranteed a match with a young boar,
the other option is to neuter Rafa and get a sow to befriend him, personally i love my boars as i have never had sows, but be prepared if you do get them, as you should always have a spare cage or two in case they fall out.
i cannot guarantee that they will get along for ever as many get along for years and fall out or they could get along forever so its up to the individual pair really the key points to matching boars i think is

1.a bigger than recommended cage to reduce fights
2.match personality opposites eg dominant with submissive
3.Ages matter, try to always pair old/younger unless of couse you get both young at the same age.
also try to do research into pairing boars and problems there are a few threads/stickys in behaviour thatshould help you out, pairing is not always easy unless you read up first xxxxxxx

It depends on the Guinea Pigs.
Some it will work with, some it won't :)

Like us and most other animals all of them are different as you know, and so this applies in situations like this too.-c

For Rafita: If you don't live too far from a rescue, I would recommend that contact them and ask them whether they would bond your boy for you. If you're not too far from more than one, it is worth phoning around and going to the one with the biggest selection of "candidates" for you boy to choose from. That way you're guaranteed a good shot at a stable relationship!

For Nicola - contact Sokel, they operate from Gretna and have just had a huge influx of rescues, many of them young boars. They rehome as far as Glasgow. There is a website in the "everything else - members' websites"
section. http://www.sokelguineapigrescue.com

All the best!
