I was planning on getting Billie a new girlfriend today, but the guinea pig I've taken home seems to be a boy! :o This is the first same-sex bond I've ever done for small animals...
So far, they are calm when they sit on the vet bed next to each other, but once you put them in the carrier case they start to fight!
I know that two boars need lots of living space to prevent fighting and will need places to hide to get away from each other. Anymore tips? Thanks, Louise xx

Here are some pigtures!

The carrying case is too soon as too close confines. You need to put them in a neutral cage or your bath tub and watch them for a while. See how they get on as at the moment they are just sitting there with no interaction. Where did you get the new guinea pig from? Its always wise to quarantine new piggies if not from a reputable rescue.

You can expect rumbling and mounting when they meet properly but if they fight then you need to part them.

Lots of space, a C&C build is usually the better option and give them two of everything, bowls, hideys etc.
Give him time to settle as new piggies need to get used to smells/sounds etc. it's a massive upheaval for them being moved from familiarity.
Cute boys and hope they fall in love :)

I now have them on some open vet bed on the floor. There have been fights and teeth chattering, but they're now sitting down next to each other. :)
He was from a friend who didn't him anymore so we thought we'd see if they got on. :/ xx

Only concern I would have is if they don't, do you have resources to find them both a friend each ? Could mean you'll have four piggies...
This is why we recommend rescues as the piggies are bonded there prior to being rehomed.
All paws crossed, this may help:

If this were the case, we'd take the new one back and keep looking for another friend for Billie. xx

The newbie just drew blood from Billie. :( Does this mean that I can't ever bond them or shall I wait a few days/weeks and try again? I have a spare hutch. xx

If he's drawn blood, it's definitely time to separate :( Your piggies will end up injured, wounds can become infected etc.
Sometimes a bonding bath helps but I'm a coward and bloody fights would end it for me :(

I would separate, could try a bonding bath as nothing to lose bath them both at same time and then put them in a neutral area again with a large pile of hay or veggies and see what happens :)

Please don't just chuck two piggies together and expect them to get on. If done wrongly, it is a surefire recipe for disaster.

PLEASE do not go and get a sow to live with an unneutered boar, or you will get right into the next massive lot of trouble!

It will be the piggies who are paying the price, at the worst with their life. Guinea pigs have a high risk of pregnancies going wrong for mummy as well as for pups, not to mention that you can far too easily end up with several generations of inbred babies if you are not careful. Can you afford the cost of an operation and the round-the- clock care necessary if things go wrong at birth?

Apart from the fact that you have to separate your boy from any girl in the long run, which he will NOT like unless you can pay to have him neutered by a piggy savvy vet (otherwise you run a fairly high risk of complications). You will also need keep him separated for six weeks afterwards until he is safe to go with girls.
This is what the best medical website for guinea pigs has to say: http://www.guinealynx.info/breeding.html

Pregnancy isnt possible has Billie was neutered two years ago.
Of course! I sepereated them straight after blood was drawn.
Bonding bath sounds like a good idea. How long should i wait to try this? Although, we might get the shelther to bond them if we can.
We might take newbie to the vets for an offical gender check. :) xx

I would seperate them and try to find a rescue that does boar dating for a friend for yours I bonded my four girls in a 5x2 cage that none of them had been in with new fleece, litter trays and hides that belonged to both and worked great . I was very lucky.I could leave them after a couple of hours on their own

It's been a week, so I'm going to try a bonding bath today. I'm really nervous. :(
Newbie was seen by a vet and I was right- he's a boy. :) xx
