Guido is a feisty but lovable Guinea pig of ours who had a cyst removed on Friday but it was discovered there was a tumor located right next to an artery. The vet is recommending having the tumor removed but says there is a slight risk with the tumor being close to an artery and with anesthesia being used. He is still happily eating, drinking, and processing things. It is not known if this tumor is cancerous.

Do we leave this alone or do we risk the surgery? Guido is over five years old.

I’m afraid I don’t know but I’m responding so that your post gets bumped and not missed. (We are largely UK based so it was 1.30am here when you posted so they can slip by sometimes in those instances).

How old is your pig? Otherwise good health?

I don’t have experience of tumours either. Sorry. I think I would listen to the vet but also you know your piggy the best. Is he a frail 5 year old or in good general health? Also is your vet confident operating on piggies?

Good luck.
