Hi everyone,

Yesterday morning one of my girls didn’t great me in the morning and I felt something was wrong. I woke her up and when she got out of bed she couldn’t stop running in circles and had a head tilt. I scooped her up to try to calm her down because she seemed very confused and didn’t know what was happening to her and her eyes were flicking back and forth or almost like they were pulsing. After about ten minutes she was back to her normal self, screaming for food.

I rushed her to the emergency vet and the vet said she either has a brain tumor or an inner ear infection? - however, the swab of her ear didn’t show any bacteria. Although the vet said she can swab the inner ear and the infection could be deeper than her outer ear.

From some research I had thought she had a stroke. My main concern is the brain tumor - as with an inner ear infection the vet said she would be in pain but I haven’t seen her acting anything but her happy self (I am a helicopter mom and take her to the vet if she even sneezes funny, LOL).

I’m just wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience and what it was/what happened?

Thank you in advance. :)

I’m afraid I do not really have any advise but just wanted to say your girl is beautiful and I hope it’s an ear infection and not a brain tumour 😞 It could of course be another neurological problem which are hard to diagnose in guinea pigs. Did the vet prescribed any treatment for a possible ear infection? x

Thank you so much :) and yes, she’s on antibiotics every 12 hours for 30 days and pain killers for 10 days. I’m hoping for the best, she definitely means the world to me. 💗

I cannot offer any advice buts let’s hope it’s an ear infection. Check her for mites as sometimes they can cause seizures

I've had something very similar happy to my late Chelsea some years back. In her case, it was probably an inner ear infection, treated with antibiotics and pain medication.
But she was also tested positive for E. Cuniculi. To be on the safe side, we treated her with panacur as well.
It was an emotional rollercoaster ride for a few weeks but she made a full recovery, only showed a slight head tilt when in stress.
She was only a few months old when she went through this ordeal, but she lived to be nearly five and had to be PTS due to a fast growing tumour in her abdomen.

Hope the medication helps your girl as well.
