noticed during daily checks and his eye looked a bit sore. Pulled his lid back and I could see a piece of hay sticking out!

Rushed him to the vets and she fished it out. He has corneal damage and has been given corneal repair and isathal. Literally came up over night!

Can anyone give me success stories of hay poke? See pictures below!

Sorry your post seems to have been missed somehow.
You’ve been to the Vets and hay removed so should just be a healing process now.

Aw, hay pokes in Guinea pigs are quite common so don’t worry! They normally heal well :)
You’ve done the right thing by getting your piggy to the vets!

You've acted quickly and got treatment so it should heal fairly nicely. Eyes can deteriorate very quickly so if you see it getting worse or if it doesn't start to improve within a couple of days then I would be inclined to go back for another check up

I had 2 hay pokes with 2 different piggies in 2 weeks which is quite rare but just one of those things. I was given Isathal for the first piggy and had enough left that I could still use for the 2nd which was lucky. I did check with my vet Mark and he said it was still fine to use. They both healed up nicely. Well done for getting your pig to the vet quickly.

Ouch Tulio that looks like it would have been soooo painful. Glad the vets fished it out and that your human had the idea of really having a good look I your eyes.

My pigs have had hay pokes (with corneal injury) a couple of times in the past, and on both occasions they recovered 100% within two weeks. The treatment was the same (antibiotic eye drops plus a corneal repair gel). Good luck to Tulio! :)

Well done for getting the hay out & getting to a vet so quickly. Hay pokes are a sad fact of life with piggies - design fault - and prompt treatment is the best treatment. Mine have all had successful outcomes with antibiotic drops and where it’s been necessary some corneal repair gel too. All have done fine and seem to have full sight afterwards. Hope that eye is feeling better.

Darcy got hay poke like that earlier in the year. After a week or two on that medication her eye was back to normal. My vet suggested putting the hay on the floor of the cage rather than in the hay Rack as when they pull the hay out of a hay rack it is very easy for bits of hay to slide into their eyes. Good luck I'm sure his eye will be back to normal in no time.

Can you tell me which antibiotic eye drops to use already give isathal for her it’s been 7 days slight improvement we are back at vets tomorrow who. Was nervous of prescribing antibiotic eye dropS as she’d never used any before on a pig kind regards chery

This is a three year old thread so you are unlikely to get a response from the OP
For bad ulcers, more than 7 days will often be needed.
