He is having his top teeth removed as he has no bottom teeth there are useless so the vet reccommended he have them removed, so he's in now to have them done :'(
Anyone else got a gummy piggy do they manage to eat ok? ?

hoping all goes well with tucker's op. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: have no idea about the gummy pig and the eating part, could get a pair of dentures ;D ;D ;D sorry poor joke. perhaps contact vedra or PM glynis as duke is always getting his teeth trimmed. she is on now if that is any help. he still has his back teeth doesn't he? sending hugs and healing vibes and hoping someone can help you. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: good luck tucker O0 girls send :-* :-* :-*

awwwwwwww little Tucker :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
could Tucker have not kept the top toofies but perhaps shortened ?

anyways all the VERY VERY BEST GO TUCKER :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Yeah my boy has all his toofies just has probs with length on his rear ones (molars) but i get them trimmed on a regular 3 weeks basis..

I do know of a couple of piggies in the US who've managed quite well with their toofies missing.... you have to feed all foods in small and shredded amounts... after the op you'll work out what suits and you'll be able to accommodate O0 O0 O0 I'd try all the fav veggies and fruits and even try new ones, but i'd be def looking at supplementing for awhile some CC or mashed up pellets as this will help :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: and of course lots of water too... you might need to re teach how to drink and eat... not sure of this... there maybe another lovely person who's had this situation before and can help more O0

All our very very best to the little guy :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

COME ON TUCKER :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Hi
Hope Tucker is ok.
All the best little guy!
Shannon (sams daughter) :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Glynis I have been having to have them cut every 2 weeks and the vet said you do no there is no point in keeping them they are useless for him and prob getting in his way.
So thought in the long term would be the best thing to do. :-\

hope all goes well for the little guy.
Shame they couldn't do this with my Carl haha! xx

good luck Tucker hope all goes well little guy

Aww he'll be gurning! bless him! I would imagine that cutting up veg smaller for him would help. Maybe shred Carrot with a potato peeler mine love that when I am doing carrots for tea I give them that as a treat! ;D

Hope he is ok, keep us posted! :smitten:

Hope everything goes well for Tucker. I know that rabbits that have their front teeth removed can live quite happily on bran and mashed veg - not sure if piggies can have bran? I don't there would be a problem with it because it's a good source of fibre.

Afraid I do not see the point of this op because gp teeth are rootless and keep on growing. They will probably grow back.

i understood that the teeth would have grown back too same as rabbits unless they take the roots out as well. :o :o :o how is tucker today? hoping he will be up and around in no know being his cheeky self ;D ;D ;D sending hugs and healing vibes :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Well the op went fine he's jumping around eating as normal! :o
I have chopped hay and some grass up small for him and gave him soft veggies and he seems great.

Maryh the vet didn't tell me that she said they came out fine and doubts they will grow back. He was born with a defect with his teeth and when I got him his top teeth were that long they were cutting into his bottom gum as he has no teeth there. What would you of suggested then?

Sian, I'd ask your vet whether they will grow back, did he take the whole root?

Glad he is doing ok. :)

It's good to know that Tucker is recovering and eating well. I'm sure you've made the best decision for your guinea as you know him the best xx

Gp teeth do not have roots. As this piggy has a birth defect,in this case they may not grow back.I would prefer to have the teeth clipped on a regular basis so that there is a chance of him being able to eat by himself.,rather than have him on syringe feed for the rest of his life.

why would he need to be syringe fed the rest of his life mary? He is use to eating without the use of teeth and is eating just fab I just gave him a bowl of grated carrot, parnip, celery and cucumber and he's demolished the lot. He is eating hay fine as well he is indoors so am keeping a very close eye on his intake. Have critical care in if I need it but don't think he will. xx
