Hello,

Ive just bought some fleece Liners and I'm trying to get them to wick, I've washed them four times straight after the other and they don't seem to be wicking

What am I doing wrong? Do I need to wash them and dry them and then wash them again or is it OK that I have put them in the washing machine washed them, not taken them out to dry I just push the wash on again straight after?

Please help I've never used them before

Thank you xx

I washed and dried in between when i wicked my fleece (not liners, I just use fleece blankets over a separate absorbent layer)

:agr: I do as above. It usually takes 2 washes and dries. I always check after each dry and tend to do one more wash/dry.

What liners are they?

I don't know they came from a company call Atlas I think I got them from amazon cost me £89 for both I've been washing them constantly since this morning they've had 4 washes each I've just set them to dry and tested one but it wasn't wicked xx

I don’t know if drying makes a difference. Having said that there is one fleece I bought a while back which just refused to wick. I washed it plenty of times. Tried just one wash after the other when it didn’t seem to wick with washing/drying. I gave up in the end.

Oh no I really hope that doesn't happen with these ones I spent all my money on these 😕 xx

Thanks for the advice I can't use mine straight away as the water I test with just pools on the top the boys will be soaked in minutes xx

you maybe best to wash and dry 3 times to see if they wick urine, have your liners got waterproof backing,as this can cause liners to be slower to wick urine.

This is what I do too. Well I wash it one time, then use it. I find it the piggies seem to be good "wickers"! Sometimes it wicks after washing it the 2nd time. With the fleece beds with pads that I buy, I just let the piggies use it straight away. It wicks eventually.

It just pools on the top and they will be soaked in minutes I'm gonna keep trying to wick them for a couple of days and see what happens xx

Are you using non bio washing powder ?
Dont use fabric softeners....
Have you got the link to the liners u bought?

I make cage liners, I wash my fleece twice and tumble dry twice - incase of shrinkage if I am making to sell...

It's ok, I am rubbish with links too! I was just going to look at the type of fleece they were ... is it like a shiny fleece? This is not the best for liners... does the description say Anti Pil Fleece? X

If you're having trouble you could try soaking then for a little while in the sink. Then wash and dry again. This is what I do with new tea towels which are also never absorbent until you've washed them - sometimes a few times.

Sorry you could also try putting some white vinegar in. The issue you're dealing with us that softeners/ other chemicals have been used during the manufacturing process and are making the fleece kind of waterproof - the vinegar could help to break them down.

Brilliant ill try that today thank you xx

I have just received a (fleece) order I placed with Beastsboutique on Etsy, which has come with 'tips for increasing wicking properties of fleece liner'. She also advises the use of vinegar and gives two specific approaches: 'Soak in a solution of water and white vinegar before washing' and 'add white vinegar to the rinse cycle of your washing machine (refer to washing machine instructions first to check this is ok for your machine)'. And as everyone says above, she also states that you should never use fabric softener in the wash as that can create a waterproof barrier on the fleece.
