I have trawled through the thread above and whilst most seem really good, and I have just ordered a big bag from The Hay Experts, could anyone who is using it give me a quick round up. Seems it could smell 'wierd, yuk, cakes, horsey/dungy, train toilets:)>>> But only if you are unlucky to get a duff bag? Is this still happening? Second question, some people have described some of it as 'dusty' which concerns me as I have one permanently snuffly piggy. ? Also people seem to use it in different ways. At the moment I use newspaper/hay in the bottom of cages and vet bed in housey bits (Wirral libraries closing so my supply of newspapers running dry :( ) Some have put newpaper under/over, hay over, etc. Can anyone please give me more info? Thanks. xx

I use it for my outdoor piggies so I don't notice the smell. I think you'll only notice it if your piggies are indoors.

I put newspaper down, and then a thin layer of megazorb, just enough to cover all the newspaper. A thick layer isn't necessary. I then pop hay in their bedroom area and in the hay rack. Mine love it. It's defo the best bedding I've used. It's soft for their feet and is so wonderfully absorbant. And good value too.

Hi Jane,

When I used it I put newspaper underneath. I found it great for absorbing but on every bag I had there was some dust at the bottom, so just don't use the very bottom of the bag.

I give it 9 out of 10. I got mine from Hammonds Feeds which is on Wilson Road Industrial Estate in Huyton Junction 6 of the M62. £5.26 a bag! :)

Thanks Charlotte. I have 6 7 indoor cages at the mo, so hope the smell doesn't work through the house! I do have hutches outside too, but they are not in use for a while yet til the warmer weather comes.
Lou, that sounds like a good supplier, I am only off junc. 8 so would take 10 - 15 mins to get there. May go a get a bag as The Hay experts are OOStock til 22/4. I have paid £6.84 which is dearer, and there was postage too, but I did get some other stuff as well so don't mind for just the once. Is Wilson Road Ind. Est. signposted off Junc 6? xx

I have been using it for 2 weeks now and really like it. I haven't noticed any smell but our piggies are outside, its very absorbent and piggies seem to like it.

Mine cost me £8.50 but it comes from a supplier about 8 miles from me so we can pick it up. And I reckon a sack will last us about a month.

I put it over the top of newspaper, with hay for them to sleep in.

I have used it but only when I couldn't get aubiose. It is very absorbant but I hate how it looks (like volcanic ash) and it is very dusty. I didn't find that it smelt bad :{
The piggies used to kick it up and out all over the place though, so for indoors, for me it is a no no. Also, I don't find it cost effective for 10 guinea pigs, especially if you have to pay postage! One sack of megazorb only lasted 2 cage changes for my lot whereas aubiose does about 8.

I would use it again but only if I couldn't get aubiose, which I love!

Yep if you come off at Junction 6 there is an Esso garage on your left well take the turning opposite that onto Wilson Road (There is a Brewers Fayre opposite.) follow the road straight go through the next set of traffic lights and Hammond Feeds is not far after on your left. :)

I use it and my piggies are indoors, i dont think it smells bad and its a lil dusty but not to bad, like Louise said its mainly the bottom bits. My piggies love it. One thing i hate about it is it is sooooo messy! it seems to get everywhere somehow. I find bits all over the house and it drives me mad. I just have newspaper and megazorb ontop and abit of hay round the cage. Good luck x

I've used Megazorb for ages and I find it great. I have indoor piggies and find it realy good for absorbing. I have a layer of newspaper, then the Megazorb and then it is topped with hay - I have this all over the cage.

hi i have used aubiose for the first time this week and WOW what a difference no smells, no dust, nothing flicking out of the cages, i have indoor piggies - ITS GREAT!
i was going to try megazorb but was put off by the smells thing and dust indoors if you have somewhere to store the big bag - bale try aubiose it its brillient!
i paid £9.50 for a 20 kg bale you can get it at a horse bedding suppliers, i wouldn't go back to wood shavings ever!

If you go for Aubiose Jane I think Hammonds feed to it too £8.00 a bag also there is a Equstrian (sp) shop on Warrington Road by you if you Google it it should come up that does Aubiose probably Megazorb too! :)

I use Megazorb for all of my small animals. Although I agree that it is a bit dusty, it doesn't seem to bother Sukie, who is my piggy with a chronic respiratory problem. If it was going to cause any problem, it would be with her.

I've noticed that in the last batch I've had it seems to have finally gone back to the way it was, ie nice and clean. For months now the stuff has had a grey dust to it, which has been quite grubby and if I could have found a decent replacement for Megazorb I would have. I really hope that it's now back to its high standard again.

I started using Megazorb about two weeks ago and have a mixture of hutches - 8 - and nero's - 4 - . All my piggies are in the conservatory at the mo but I can only smell hay when I go out there. I have newspaper in the bottom and they have hay on top. I prefer it to wood chips that I was using before, also the combination of hay and sawdust actually made me wheeze quite a lot. I have read that people find it easier to remove the poos by sweeping them off so I assumed that it 'set' in some way malletheadmallethead but it doesn't and so with the hutches it can be a bit messy, bit it's more absorbant and a bag has lasted me for 3 complete changes of bedding.

Can someone tell me the difference between this and Auboise? I would be interested in this if it goes further as Lavenderjade said it did.

:)p:)p

i've just had two bags of megazorb delivered, it's quite economical for me i think, cant wait to try it!

I got some last weekend and I love it. It smells a bit when you first change it but I think that is due to particles in the air. I have them in the living room as you know and doesn't bother us. I have an open bale in living room too and that doesn't seem to smell so think it is just when it is settling. I use a layer of newspaper and then the megazorb I only use a thin layer.

I did my first change after a whole week as no smell etc.. I did scoop some poos out midweek and an excess hay off the floor but that was it. I have found when changing it is so easy as after a week has passed it is a hardish layer and you can roll it up and throw it away very easily. It's the best bedding i have tried out of shavings, vetbed, carefresh and megazorb.

Is adlington too far from you as I got mine from someone there it was on other side to preston It was 20 odd miles for me but worth it.

It's near adlington. we got motorway to horwich and then backtracked quite close to horwich will give you the address of the guy if it is any good to you?

I like Megazorb. I have only been using it for a couple of weeks but looking at a couple of my hutches where I am still using woodshavings to use up the bag, I have to say that I prefer Megazorb 100%.

I like how easy it is to handle compared to compacted woodshavings and when you have five large hutches to clean out, time is of the essence.
I do find it "kicked out" and it can get caught in the hutch doors and I wonder why they won't close, but I really like Megazorb.

To me, it looks more natural and it is much more absorbent. More expensive though, but worth it. I have just found a supplier approx 8 miles from me that sells it at £6.40 per bag. Not bad, eh?
