Hi and welcome

Please take the time to read the guide links below; you should find them very helpful. They contain lots of tips, information on how prey animal instincts work, how you can avoid behaving like a predator and slowly make friends with them in their own body language (piggy whispering).

Be aware that settling in guinea pigs not used to a home generally takes much longer than most people expect. if you have got off on the wrong foot, this will likely take even longer. Trust is a tender plant that needs to make deep roots before it can grow and flourish. Be patient and persistent, but respect when your guinea pigs tell you that they have had enough. if you allow them to tell you where their limit is, they will trust you sooner. Respect works both ways.
The more you learn to understand your guinea pigs, the more you can also communicate with them. Interaction is not just cuddling, it also time you spend watching, talking and more and more playing with them as they learn to trust you.

These guides are all part of our new owners helpful information and 'how to' package. You should find it very interesting as it will help you to care for your guinea pigs as best as you can. This can then make a real difference on how healthy they are and how long they live.

Please make sure that you and your parents save up for a vet fund right from the start so you can pay for emergency vet care at any time. Guinea pigs are much smaller prey animals, they hide their illness for as long as possible and go downhill a lot more quickly than dogs and cannot wait for days or week. Vet care is not all that much cheaper than it is for large pets.

after about a year me and ONE of my guinea pigs have gained trust in each other!! So here is a little back story. last year I got my piggy, Shadow. 16 days later we get my other piggy, teddy, who is my brothers pig but is caged in my room with shadow. Teddy... He’s a biter. Put something in front of him? Too late he has already bitten it. He bites EVERYTHING! Any tips on how to get him to stop biting?

Hi!

Please take the time to read these two guides. They show you how you can tell him off in his own language. that is the most effective way.

just talk to them every chance you get. sit with them, watch them even sing to them if you feel inclined to. building trust can be a long process but focus on enjoying the journey not the destination.
