Hi guys, as some of you already know, we lost our little man Benito last Friday which leaves me with a lonely Pewter. After putting some thought into it, I have decided that I don't want to get a fourth pig again & try to bond her with Buttons & Cornelius instead. The forum members who know our story from the beginning might remember that Buttons & Pewter used to be cage mates before the boys came along. They were never best friends when they were living together but they got along fine. They did go through puberty then (Pewter was an awful pig), Buttons was pregnant and their cage was really way too small for them, so I'm pretty sure that most of their issues came from there. The trio will get a 4x3 C&C cage with a 1x3 loft (2 ramps). If I notice that's still too small I have an option to increase to a 5x3, that's more of an "if it REALLY needs to be" solution, though, as it would take up quite a lot of space in my small flat.

So far I've only ever bonded pairs (Pewter & Benito, Buttons & Cornelius) which was fairly simple and straightforward. I am hoping that the trio bonding is going to be simple as well but I still wanted to ask: Is there anything I should be aware of or wary about when bonding 3 pigs? Any tips and tricks or signs to look out for are much appreciated. Thank you ❤️

So sorry you are in this situation, it’s so sad :hug:I Hope Pewter can be bonded with your other pair. I would have a good read at the bonding guides and choose a day when you can spend all day with them with no work or interruptions.
Good luck, the cage sounds a great space

Thank you, it really is - I still cry a few tears every day when cutting up their veggies or giving them their goodnight pellets. :( I'm hoping it'll get a little better once the cage is rebuilt and the trio is bonded. I'm cautiously positive that they'll all get along fine so fingers crossed. Will do the bonding after I finish work at lunch on Friday. That gives us 12 hours without interruptions before I'm going to bed -I'm a bit of a night owl - so we should be fine.

I'll definitely have a read of the bonding guides again, it's been a while since our last bonding session. I will provide updates on the bonding session as it happens. 😊 xx

Good luck. I hope the bonding works for you.
That veggie cutting up time is awful isn't it. I still cater for 6 instead of 4 half the time, counting to 6 is ingrained on my brain!

Aw good luck, you never kinky with piggies as I’ve found out in the past but they are adults so that helps, no disruptive teenagers helps. Hope it works 🤞

Hope the bonding works well.

I’m still preparing veggies for 4, then I remember and shed a tear for Priscilla.
This normal grief.
One thing’s certain - the piggies will never tell you that there’s too much!

Mine never complain either!

A quick bonding update while we‘re in the middle of it: It‘s been a tense one so far, there‘s now phases of more quiet munching but overall there is lots and lots of noise from the ladies, a little rumbling from Cornelius and there was quite a lot of teeth chattering. The latter has died down, I think, and Cornelius is now allowed to approach Pewter without her throwing a fit. She is making sure everyone knows without a doubt who‘s boss, so fingers crossed the other two will accept!

We had some food, eating was largely peaceful. There was food scattered all across the cage but they decided to eat together so I guess that’s a good sign? It’s still very noisy with the very occasional teeth chatter but Pewter is a very vocal piggy in general so I guess not too surprising. Definitely haven’t given up hope that they’ll sort it out.

To bring this thread to a close: Their bond was tense for most of the time. So when Buttons had to be spayed and the girls were separated for a week they both decied that life without the other one was much nicer. Pewter now lives as a neighbour next to Buttons & Cornelius and everyone is happier than they'd been in months. Buttons has a relaxing existence now that Pewter doesn't nip her but 17 million times a day and Pewter is much less stressed in her own little kingdom. It would've probably been the best decision to set Pewter up as a neighbour from the start but you know, hindsight and all that. At least everyone is happy and relaxed now, that's all that matters. :luv:
