Hi!
I have a long haired guinea pig (Pebbles) who is usually very docile (he sits perfectly still when being petted and stroked and often jumps into my lap and cuddles up to me). However, whenever I try and trim his fur he goes really jumpy and runs away (often back to me for safety 😂😂). Now that the weather's getting warmer I feel under more pressure to cut his fur but I'm not sure how to do it. Has anyone got any advice? Thank you :)

I have five long haired girls and one of them is a right diva when it comes to having a trim you would swear she's being tortured 😆 I find it works best to have someone hold her and then I trim her with a clippers which I find quicker than using the scissors like I used to when we first had them.

Thank you that's a good idea. I use scissors at the minute so I'll have to try clippers. :)

I used to use scissors but was always wary as she used to jump about so much I was afraid of nipping her. It's so much easier using the clippers plus she doesn't seem to jump around so much so it's all over and done with so much quicker which is better for her.

I wrote a guide to all aspects of hair trimming and it can be found here:-

An Illustrated Guide to Hair Cutting

There is a section on coping with diva piggies who don't want their hair cut. Please note that it took a few years training to get The Ever Beautiful Betsy to sit still during her trims that are illustrated on the guide.

Yes that's exactly what my guinea pig does! He makes such a fuss and then comes over to me to tuck his head under my hand to hide.
