My boys are short haired smooths mostly, but they do have longer hair over their back end - there must be some long-haired genes in them somewhere! The lady at the rescue told me to keep an eye on them and trim if necessary, but I’m wondering how long is too long? The hair is definitely longer than when I brought them home 3 weeks ago, but it doesn’t touch the floor - hopefully you can see what I mean in the pigtures (plus one of their cute faces just because)

Just wondering when/whether I should trim?

Thanks!

They look fine to me. Gorgeous piggies by the way! 🥰

It depends on how well they maintain their coat/how clean it stays. I have boys with longer hair than yours and boys with shorter - one of the longer haired boys stays very clean and matte free, whereas the other I trim shorter as he tends to get a bit matted.

When it comes to trimming, @Betsy 's guide (as said above) is fantastic!

Thank you so much, the guide is fantastic!

I’d rather not put them through a trim unless it’s necessary and they’re very clean at the moment - just don’t want the longer hair to interfere with them at all. I’ll leave them be for now and keep an eye on any mats/dirt, the most mess they cause at the moment is hay all over them 😂 But they’re pretty great at sorting themselves out

One of my boys is exactly like this with hair long in the exact same place.
I trim his hair when it starts dragging on the floor.

If you see the 'train' collecting poops and debris, or soaking up pee and getting smelly, it's a sign they might need a bit of help staying clean.
My long-haired pig will have her next all-over trim when the weather is more reliably warm as she needs all the help she can get! She's had her back end scissored and I thought she was managing OK but the last time I looked at her fluffy tummy she was polka-dotted with stuck poops!

Aw gosh poor piggie! Long haired piggies must be a whole other world, I’ve only ever had short haired.

I’ll keep an eye on my boys and if it’s so long it’s tangling in things or dragging on the floor I’ll trim (And hope they forgive me :inn: Thank goodness for Betsy’s guide!)

I think it isn't urgent to trim them, but if it gets any longer I would definently trim their hair at the back.
