Hey!
My first post, we are very excited to be adopting three gorgeous piggies.
My question is what's the best carrier for three guinea pigs?
Also any other tips for travelling 30 ish mins with them in the car very welcome 🥰

Hello and welcome to the forum
Oh exciting times for you. I use a large cat/small dog carrier, pop in an old towel in the bottom and little bit of hay and maybe a piece of cucumber or pepper for them each. They will fine for the 30 minute journey. Guinea pigs usually will just huddle up together and stay very quiet and be a little bit scared but it’s not long so don’t worry too much
I used to have two piggies Bill and Ted (in my avatar) that travelled 600 mile round trips to see a specialist dental vet for a number of years and they actually were very relaxed, but they were an exception to the rule

Hello and welcome to the forum. Looking forward to seeing pigtures of your three beauties when they have settled in. 😍

Hello and welcome. Lucky you getting three in one! We’d love to see photos of them once they’re settled, if you want to post some ☺️ How old are they? Are they a boar and two sows or a trio of sows?

That's exciting to be getting 3 piggies soon. This is my 3 piggy carrier. It seemed a generous size for local vet visits but ended up travelling a distance to a specialist vet, this was perfect. They could all lay down in comfort and it felt protected for car journeys.

Hi and welcome to the forum. For a short journey like this I use a "cat" carrier. For longer journeys (maybe an hour and half when I've been to pick up a new piggy) I use the emergency hospital cage I have in the loft which is a 100cm ferplast

Thank you for the warm welcome!
They are three boars 😍
& Thank you for the carriers, I'll be purchasing one!
I will absolutely share photos when they are here - the start of September ♥️

Hello and welcome! So excited for you!
I’m sorry to be the bringer of bad news but unfortunately having 3 boars together will mostly likely end in tears. 2 boars can live together (if they like each other!) but adding a third creates guinea pig war, they will eventually fight and fall out.
Is there a chance you can bring just 2 home?
Females can live in small groups, but not males.
All the best :)

Thank you for this, I really appreciate it!
We will have to find some girls to adopt instead ♥️

Hi and welcome

You may find our travelling guide with lots of practical advice very helpful: Travelling with guinea pigs

Thank you for taking on my advice. :)
You can also have a 1 neutered male with any amount of females.
Of course even with just girls there is a risk they could fall out. But if well bonded you should be fine. No where near as difficult and problematic as with 3 boys.
Good luck. Let us know when you find your perfect piggies! Are you looking to rescue?

I’m sorry your excitement has been curbed by the news of 3 boars being a no go. Given you were taking on 3, are you getting them from a pet shop or private owner? Have a look at the link below for rescues that may be near (and a little further away) you. Adopting from there , you know that they are health checked, not pregnant (something that can happen with sows from pet shops), missexed (again, pet shops) and are bonded.

Good luck with the search.
