So, I'm going to be traveling to the vet (its around a 12 minute drive from my home) for the first time, should I buy a carrier, or would it be okay for me to use a cardboard box? I'm not planning on traveling long distance with my guinea pig (Butter) any time soon...

I would have a carrier. Most vets ask that animals are brought in secure carriers.
My vet is a 5 minute drive away and I personally would not feel safe using a cardboard box - in case it got soggy, accidentally dropped, also to ensure they are safe in the event of a car collision.

Okay, thank you so much for your comment. Do carriers expire (if not damaged)?

I used a plastic storage tub once but this was an emergency ( my carrier was in the shed ) a small carrier can be purchased for around £12.. or look on Facebook marketplace for a 2nd hand one if you won't be using it much x

My vets sell second hand used carriers. I think people donate them to them.

I got second hand ones or even new on eBay for cheap price
