I'm thinking of buying a travel carrier, normally my piggies travel to the vets in reinforced cardboard file storage boxes because its only a mile away... but Jezzy ate a piggy size hole in one last time she went for a nail trim (there was a big licky pig floofy face interfering with the gear changes by the time we got to the traffic lights near my house) and we might be travelling further to find Tallulah a husband... what do other people use? I was looking at some carriers that are 58cm by 38cm floor space, can 2 piggies travel comfortably in that for a couple of hours? Or 3 if they are just off for a nail trim and wont be in there more than an hour at the most? How does everyone else transport multiple piggies? I'd prefer something that can be strapped in properly on the back seat with a seatbelt...

Oooh possible husboar!
I personally don’t have a travel carrierbut I’d imagine you could just get a cat carrier and line it with a bit of fleece

I was looking at the RAC approved large cat carrier with a proper seatbelt attachment... but roughly 58x38 seems standard for a large cat carrier and it still sounds small... but we only drive a little fiat 500 car so 58x38 is pretty much the whole back seat! Any bigger and we'd have to flatten the back seat into the boot which isnt very safe as no way of securing with seatbelts...

I use a cat carrier, lined with a towel, then lined with hay. The plastic door ones from pets at home. They do sell metal door ones which are bigger though.

I use this storage box (62L) whenever we travel quite far (only for 1 piggy). I put loads of holes on the lid so they have air circulation, or I usually just don't put the lid on. Hubby drives and I sit next to the piggy at the back anyway so I can keep him/her safe without the lid on.

But if we have to bring 3 piggies and travel far (like going to Cat & Rabbit in Northampton), I have to put them in their old small 100cm cage that petshops sell.

I use a large cat carrier if we just go to local vets which can be around 15mins or a couple of hours away.

I use this when taking the piggies to the vet. Though not the small size I don’t think. I put fleece on the bottom then some hay on top. They usually burrow underneath the fleece though *give me strength* 🙄

Are 2 piggies ok in a large cat carrier for a couple of hours? If they were on their second date maybe... or might that stress a potential new relationship... I could use my old 80cm hospital cage but its 48cm wide so wouldnt be that secure on our tiny back seat... or do newlyweds travel separately?
I think I could easily put 3 old friends in a large cat carrier for a 1 mile trip for a check-up and nail trim no problem because they know its the vets and they try to hide underneath each other the whole time, the friendliest they ever get is flattening themselves under their mates trying not to be noticed by the vet nurse...
But a new piggy and longer trip worries me a bit...

I use a Catit Cabrio for my three. It’s about 55 by 33 I think but mine have been in it happily (and unintentionally) for 3 hours. Seatbelts work well with it and I really like it.
Not sure I can advise on newly bonded piggies though

Travelling with guinea pigs

I use a medium pet carrier but the longest journey with two in it has been an hour. Our vets are only 15-20 mins away but I've always thought the less room for them to be flung around if you had to stop suddenly the better. I line the carrier with a puppy pad and vet bed with a handfull of hay to nibble. We loop the seatbelt round the carrier and through the handle.
