I just brought home a 4 year old guinea pig named Violet. We had a 15 minute car ride home and she did NOT like it. When we got home I gave her some veggies and held her in my lap. She seemed fine and i put her back in the cage. I had to leave for several hours. When I came back,I had to transport Violet again. This time I held her in my lap and tried to comfort her. When I got home,I set up her cage and it was a little shaky which freaked her out. Then she had a run in with one of the cats. Nobody was hurt but it freaked her out. I attempted to take her out but she nibbled at me. It didn't break skin but I decided to check her food and water and leave her alone. This morning I took her out and held her for a few minutes. When I was putting her back in, I accidentally snagged one of her feet on the cage. I felt so terrible. Is she traumatized? What do I do?

You should ideally let her settle in for a few days before handling her. She will need time to adjust to her new surroundings.

I've just seen your other thread about her cage. It's cruel to keep a piggie in a cage that small. You need to source a bigger cage ASAP

Agree with @mshappy89 in everything. Also, please, as she's new at your house and doesn't trust you and doesn't feel confident in there yet, please, don't put her near the cat, because she will be too scared!
Also, check out the threads in here, as you seem quite new with guinea pigs you will find all of them to be really really useful: " Starter Kit" Of Information Threads For New Owners

It seems as though every time I attempt to hold Violet, she bites me. I am having a little trouble holding her. Are there any tips anyone might have?

She is probably very scared. Her whole world has changed in a day. She is most likely biting out of fear. I know it is really hard but it is best to leave her alone in her cage for a couple of days before trying to handle her. You should def read the link above for a lot of good information. It is easy and not too expensive to build a large cage. She really does need more space even if she has lived in that cage all her life. All the more reason to get her into the proper environment, feed her the proper things and take care of her much better than she has been in the past.

When did you get her? If it's only been a day or two you should leave her to get adjusted to new sites and sounds. Talk to her and give her treats but she is scared and biting to defend herself so just be patient and go slower
