Hi!

Up until last week i had two boars living together, both a year old, who were bought together and got on well. Sadly when Hamilton was out for a run last week he was got by a fox (who also managed to get 4 of my neighbours chickens). He was in such a bad way when we found him we just made a bed for him in the corner of the hutch and he passed away within a couple of hours. During this time onions, our other guinea pig was really quiet, even when we picked him up,almost as if he knew what was happening.

He has been quite quiet ever since and considering he used to be a noisy little thing i'm worried we have traumatised him! Has anyone had a similar experience?

Also, does anybody think it would be a good idea to introduce another friend in the future? Those two were together since birth and i don't know how he would react to a stranger.

Finally please be careful if your piggies are out for a run!

Hi sooo sorry for the loss of your beloved piggy 0:)

I believe there is a piggy out their for every piggy and introducing a baby boar will be best as you said he is about 1 years old which could be quite stressful if you introduce him to an older boar (for you and your piggy) O0

I havent had it happen to me :-\ but you should keep a close eye on Onions for a little while to recover from the loss of his buddy then let him have a new friend which I'm sure hell love the company of another friend :smitten:

Keep us updated in whatever you decide to do ;)

i think it would be good to introduce him to a new friend. if you go to a rescue, they let you take your piggy along so he can meet some pigies and see if he gets on with them O0 :)

I would get a companion pig as quickly as possible.

Bach Flower Rescue Remedy is good for gps who have been traumatized.

Please, please, everyone, never leave your pigs unattended kin a garden run. Our pigs go out on the lawn in runs with roofs on in the good weather, but there is always someone out there with them because we too get foxes in the garden. One year my husband was cleaning out the pond, looked up and a fox was standing on the roof of one of the runs.It gave my husband a very haughty look and ran off. They are so quick and unafraid that it really is not save to lleave the piggies.

I am so sorry for your loss and i on this accasion agree with Mary, although we have never had a fox prob during the day we have had them at night but i too have heard some horror storys like you have just told, how sad for you

I am so sorry, how horrid for you :'(
I agree with the others, a friend would be best for Onions :smitten: :smitten:

So sorry about what happened :(

Harry had a brother Ron who was disabled and died after they had been together about 5 months. Harry was very depressed, he did not eat and took comfort in the only friend he could find, our dog (who lies next to the cage and lets Harry nibble on his fur). He became a very clingy piggy who was constantly looking through the bars of the cage and trying to nudge the door open. I put him in with my other two older boys who did not accept him so a few days ago we got him a baby friend. He is very happy with his new friend, has mounted it a few times but most of the time is jumping about, walking up to it, gently pressing its nose against its side and then hopping off again. They have been seen curled up together and eating the same cabbage leaf together. Harry has a new found energy.

I agree a friend would be good, either a baby boy or get his bits done and a girl friend.

So sorry again about your other piggie.
