Hello

My guinea pig is squeaking again when pooing or weeing so the vet has now given tiny tablets of Tramadol to try and get half for him. Is it OK to gve at same time as Metacam (he s currently on 0.5ml twice a day of dog strength)? I am waiting a few hours to be safe at the moment. Thanks

I also have just bought him Chanca Plus powder and UT syrup from Galens Garden.

Any suggestions for lowest calcium bottled water please? I filter ours but we are in such a hard water area it may still be too hard!

Many thanks.

I can't help your poor lad with the painkillers but water-wise we have a Waitrose near us and they do 'Royal Deeside Natural Mineral Water' which says 3mg/L Calcium on the back. It's pricey at £1 a bottle (they are glass bottles because it's the posh No.1 range) but it's still about one tenth of what my filtered tap water would be. Don't buy the sparkling one by mistake!
Have a look out for any waters with a Scottish or Welsh theme as there are some areas that have very soft water - this Deeside one is apparently from the Cairngorms. Good luck x

They are different families of drugs so ok together but you might find it better to stagger them to make sure that the pain relief is constant all day and avoid peaks and troughs.

Yes my guinea pig is on both metacam and tramadol and they can be given at the same time. My vet recommended not using the same
syringe to administer them (not sure why) so I make sure I know which syringe I give the tramadol in. I give my guinea pig tramadol and metacam first thing (8am roughly) then give the tramadol 8 hours after (4pm ish) the first dose and then the metacam 12 hours after (8pm ish) I’ve found this helps with the pain relief when I stagger them. He is still squeaking when peeing but he has put on lots of weight since starting on the tramadol which I’ve been told by some forum members that this shows it’s being really effective helping with the pain. Hope the tramadol works for your piggy!

thank you, that is great to hear. Glad your guinea pig happier. Graham the guinea pig only has tiny tablets of tramadol but my vet did say she can get the liquid form. Is yours on Tramadol & Metacam all of the time or just flare ups?

Mine has the tablets crushed and mixed with water which is ready done from the vets, I just make sure I give it a really good shake as small bits of the tablets can settle at the bottom of the container thing it’s in! Yeah he’s on tramadol and metacam all of the time, he can have the tramadol 3x daily when he has flare ups (every 8 hours) but he’s currently on x2 daily - I currently judge it by his weight, if he’s stable/putting on weight I’ll leave it at x2 daily and if he dropped any id put it up to x3 daily. But speak to you’re vet about this if you felt x2 daily wasn’t enough as your guinea pig might be on a higher dose of tramadol so unable to have it 3 times. Hope this makes sense ☺️
