My brother and his girlfriend have owed me £60 for a long time now, and are always mucking me around when it comes to giving it me back. Being the fool that I am, let them get away with it.

For a couple of weeks she has given me a date for when I will get it, only I just got a text -
- don't bank on that money as froggy (my bruv) has just been taken off a course and has lost job seekers' allowance. -

Now usually it would be ok, but they've gone out and bought BRAND NEW PHONES each! Totalling £190! :o :o

Right! Demanding half at least then maybe scare her by saying I'm in touch with CAB! - They are daft - will believe anything.

Guess though, I'm the fool being taken for a ride - AGAIN!

that sounds exactly like my bro in law

he now owes us nearly £12000 on the credit card my hubby lent him to get himself sorted when he moved to Brighton
hes had more jobs that we've had hot dinners,I only found out by seeing the bill that accidently got left lying around our house
he constantly gambles huge amounts on horse racing etc,hes sposed to pay back £250 a month to us ,but then conviently loses his job yet again and i think until now has only paid us back one lot
then he got married and i can guess the money went on that >:( >:(
the other week he got some footy tickets costing something like £40 each or something and said he would pay us back when he has the money,we have to constantly lie to my hubbys mum and dad and the bro in laws wife as to how he could afford them
its seriously peeing me off now,ive mentioned it to the hubby that its unfair that he owes us all this money ( appar he also owes his mum and dad £30000) and its us that have to pay the damn bill every month when we dont have much money as it is,he calls the hubby and says " ive had a £40 bet on such and such "
ugh it infuriates me
he should get his priorites right >:( >:( >:(

if it was a bank they would be knocking on his door by now
and if the bills not paid then its us that gets dragged to court,i cant believe he let him have the bloody card without telling me..
ive also seen texts on the hubbys phone asking him to lend his bro money to pay the rent etc,i can see why now he cant get credit or a mortgage >:( >:(
and then like a fool the hubby lends it him bringing the money he owes us to an even bigger amount

That is unfair, no wonder you'e pissed off. It's so galling when people go on as though they have no money and then go and buy something like a new phone. It's just taking the . >:(

he mentioned the other day him and his wife had gone out for a lovely meal...wtf!
that money couldve paid off some of what he owes us >:( >:( >:(

Gosh yeah! Me moaning about £60 compared to you seems daft I know - but it's a lot when it's money you haven't got.

We're in so much debt at the mo - got a CAB financial advisor that sorts out our money, cos if we didn't then god knows what would've happened! We had to move back in with my parents as we couldn't afford our rent either :( :(

i know what you mean,it would be nice that we could treat ourselves now and again
and theyre having all the fun and not giving a damn >:(

Yep! The amount of times we think - yay we can go out - money has to go towards a priority debt! Be nice to never have to think about spending like them!

On the bright side - been saving well before christmas to be able to go out twice during half term week! :)

OMG kelly reading this it sounds like we may have the same brother? lol

My brother is exactly the same - he owes me probably now up to about 300 pounds all in all and have I seen any of it? Nope... yet him and his girlfriend go out and buy expensive stuff, new phones, new kitchen, bought a new campervan thing but everytime I mention it they are skint that month! grrrrr

Winds me up cause I HATE oweing people money... :(

Well I hope you have more luck than I have had, cause I have just given up now :(

sounds like my ex - I am still paying off the credit card bill after 4yrs! I was stupid and let him use my card to get back on his feet and buy presents for his kids (he had v.bad credit rating so no cards or money - every last penny went on beer and fags so he had nothing left to take his children out with on Sundays - I should have known!).
Anyway he had the gall to turn up after I had cancelled the wedding and kicked him out - in a new car bought on finance when he should have been paying me back! I had just crashed my BMW which I loved (it was old and my ex had got it for me v.cheap as he was a mechanic) and couldn't afford to replace it, and there he was showing off in a brand new car! Thank God I never married him! We'd have been divorced by now.. or I'd have taken out a contract on him!

he ended up in prison not long after - only for a few months, not long enough!

Well I texted back a few hours now - haven't heard anything :D

Said that I expect at least half back because they had new phones and have obviously got money....

Don't like borrowing, if I can't afford it, then I simply don't have it - not that I really miss it!

xx

my kids owe me money and its non stop the eldest is a grafter and never borrows money but we would lend it to him if he needed it but the other 2 owe me a fortune aorund £3.000 between them and have no real intention of paying it back, wont be getting anymore though, familys when I borrowed money from my dad he made me pay interest wtf familys >:(

Kelly,
Tell them if they dont give you the money back you will take them to small claims court or something. And that it's obvious they have the money but are unwilling to give it back.
See what that does.
Shaz, i'm not sure what to suggest. Other then getting the card and cutting it up into little pieces. Can you not cancel the card? Other thing is make a contract stating that BIL will pay back say £100 a month, make him sign it. Then if and when he doesn't pay, you take him to court. Even a virbal(sp) contract will have some hold in court.I've got nearly £4000 on my credit card, and it's costing about £90 a month. So even at £100 a month he'll be getting away lightly.

it got more interesting last night, dad got a text from his bro saying hes gotta go to court for not paying his council tax and asked dad for another £425
mum went nuts, and dad just said he can f*** off
thank god for that

Only have to mention CAB and money will be there!

Trouble is, if I 'play dirty' then we don't get to see the kids :(

My brother's girlfriend is like that unfortunately :( :(
