Hi everyone, my girl is turning 6 in the last quarter. Right now I notice she isn’t really taking her treats (oxbow) properly. I checked on her and realised there’s a crack in her tooth. What can I do? Will it eventually drop off? She is still eating just that she can’t break the big pieces. The vet is closed at this hour, I’d have to wait till tomorrow.

Hello and welcome to the forum
Can you tell us know exactly where the crack is?
Does it run across the incisor or does it run the length of the tooth towards the gum line. If the second is the case then she really needs to see a vet as bacteria can get in and cause an infection. If the crack runs across laterally your vet may be able to file the tooth down and remove the broken part and smooth the edge down

It’s across. I attached the images. The crack line is quite at the top

Aoh gosh yes I can see the crack right across the front top tooth. This is better than a break or split running vertically into the gum. You will probably find it will grow out within a day or so, if not sooner as the teeth are constantly growing. Your vet may be able to remove the cracked part of the tooth without using General anaesthetic which would be better with regard to her age. There is an interesting page on Guinea Pig Lynx web site here it is, it shows how a broken incisor will grow back over a matter of about three weeks. This happened to one of my old piggies Bill, he had problems with his front teeth breaking after he broke one tooth, although he always managed to eat.
Offer her dry porridge oats and cut up all veggies and hand feed. Encourage her to eat hay and a little bit of grass if she tolerates it.

I just came back from the vet.
The tooth came off. And what’s next was, the tooth next to it. My vet showed me that it was also loose and notice it has a crack too. She removed the tooth too, by hand. Medicine prescribed: Oral dental paste, Anti biotic and pain relief - because there’s bleeding. Critical care and hand feed would also be done for the next few weeks.
