Hello! My lethal pig Sugar only has one top tooth that gets overgrown each month. We took her to the vet this morning for a tooth trim and I'm pretty sure they cut it way too short. I have to open her mouth to see it.

I'm switching vets after this, they've been careless with other (although small) things before and are generally not that great.

Apart from this, she is eating veg and is eating hay, but it looks to be almost frustrating. Is there any way I can help her eat her hay? Will wet hay be good for her? I know about critical care and pellets, but do those provide the same nutrients as hay?

Thanks for your help!

I moistened some very fine hay and luckily shes a very cooperative piggy.. she's eating up her mush! I hope this will be good until it grows back some more. If anyone has any extra tips that would be awesome!

Critical care is syringe fed to piggies who are poorly and aren’t eating enough hay for themselves. Its the emergency alternative and directly replaces the fibre and nutrients they aren’t getting from hay and other food, so yes, it will give her everything she needs if she is not able to eat enough for herself. Continue to offer hay. critical care can be syringe fed to her as well as you being able to leave some in a bowl in the cage if she is able to eat for herself
Offer her nice long strands of hay (by hand) (also ensure there is plenty left in the cage), and strips of veg, fresh grass is also good if you have access to it.
Weigh her daily so you can more closely monitor her food intake.

I would give her a small bowl of porridge oats to eat while she is having problems eating her hay. I used to do this with my dental piggie Ted and he loved them and found them easy to eat and healthy too
Could she manage a little grass? Try her first with only very small amounts and increase if tolerated. Grass is a good substitute for hay as it has plently of silica on the leaves to keep the back teeth worn down
Her front tooth will grow back pretty quickly x

You could also try cutting veggies into tiny julienne strips (like the size of blades of grass) and handing them to her so that she can get them into her mouth and chew them. My previous foster piggy who had no incisors used to have an egg cup with her veggies in strips in it so that she could get them into her mouth more easily.

Thanks everyone for your comments! She's been getting critical care, mushed and cut up veg, and she's able to eat an orchard grass and timothy hay blend slowly! Her tooth is growing (although not much since this was a few days ago.) She's eating water on her own and is doing well :P
