Hi all.
One of my boys has had issues with his bottom right incisor, it has snapped x2...... No cage biting etc. First time the vet had him in for a high speed burr trim.
His tooth is so much thinner than it's next door tooth

Upper and lower teeth are somewhat aligned now but he is struggling to eat, he can manage but makes movements as if he is trying to swallow a pill after every bite.

Any help appreciated x

If he is struggling to eat then he really does need to see a vet again.
You should also switch to daily weighing to keep an eye on his weight and be prepared to step in with syringe feeding if needed.

Where are you based and how experienced is your vet with guinea pig dental issues?
His problem may be further back in his mouth - has this been considered?

He can eat and is fine with hay but veg he does a strange head movement. I weigh them weekly even though they are +4 yrs and no significant difference.
I do not have a vet that is great in dental issues. In uk, ours is the top two but she doesn't specifically claim to be a dental pig vet xx

He can eat small pieces but it's the head movement that's troubling me, fine with hay, tentative with veg, okay with nuggets

He has just eaten his veggies with no issues at all, I'm now beginning to wonder if maybe had a scratch in his throat from his hay 🤔 if he starts to struggle again ill make an appointment but he seems fine now.x

It would be a good idea to switch from the routine weekly weight checks and instead weigh him daily while you have concerns. It will enable you to be sure he definitely eating enough hay.

I would thoroughly recommend that you get a referral to Simon or Kim Maddock at the Cat and Rabbit Clinic in Northampton if you can get there. They are the go to and best and most experienced vets who deal with around 40 guinea pigs with dental issues from around the country.
They do conscious dentals which takes around 10 minutes and will examine the molars for any spur or molar overgrowth which can stop them eventually from swollening food

I certainly will, thank you x

Hi, my Edward currently has a broken bottom incisor but is eating fine. His top incisor is growing longer but I’m hoping it will wear down as his bottom incisor grows and they meet in the middle.

I am weighing Edward daily to make sure he’s eating enough hay and am cutting his veg up in to small strips. Please don’t let your vet mess with his teeth too much as it can cause more harm than good especially if your vet isn’t confident with guinea pig dentistry. As @Bill & Ted has mentioned, Simon and Kim Maddock in Northampton are fantastic at doing dentals
