New Born Pup
Hello, this is my first post
I have a 3.8month old boy named Rodney, he is the best boy.
About 5 months ago his bottom left incisor completely broke off at the root somehow, which led to a teeth trim. They tried to put him under general anesthetic to trim his molars, but he was having respiratory issues so they didn’t end up going through with it and we treated any respiratory issues as well. His molars weren’t bad just not perfect and didn’t affect his eating.
Since then his two incisors are back to normal and he has been staying at a good weight but he has developed an abscess under his chin. X-ray confirmed it is from that original broken tooth.
My vet is an exotic one and I trust her.. she says on paper the only true treatment is to remove the tooth and abscess surgically but I don’t want to put Rodney through that. I asked her about opening the abscess and cleaning it out and I clean it out at home but she said it wouldn’t treat it without taking out the tooth as well.
So for now he is on antibiotics and pain meds but he is eating and acting like himself and I am going back to the vet on the 12th for more of a palliative plan since I’m pretty set on no surgery. Is this the right decision?
I guess I’m posting to see if anyone has had a piggy with a tooth abscess and didn’t have it treated surgically and how that fared. This is breaking my heart.
Thank you!
