Darling Peanut was PTS this morning. Would tomorrow be too soon to try bonding Rusty with Brillo? Brillo has been on his own since a full on fight with his cagemate of 2 years in December. I have had problems finding him a new friend as most rescues have not been doing bondings due to COVID and the only one I could find that were said they would phone me then didn't. Am I better holding off on trying them? I'd love to know if they will get on together and I can stop the search for a friend for Brillo, and not start one for poor Rusty who is about to have his 4th cagemate in 4 years.

Was Rusty living with Peanut? I don’t know if it’s too soon, possibly…could you put them next to each other for a few days then try them? Depending on how Rusty is…

Rusty seems fine, yes he was living with Peanut. Brillo, Rusty and Peanut have been having a lot of floor time and garden time in adjoining pens so they are aware of each other. As far as adjoining pen clues are concerned they are interested in each other and chat through the bars, there has been no aggression through the bars. Of course it could all change when they are in together, boars will be boars! I think I will see how Rusty is in the morning.

I bonded Betsy with Meg and Patsy 2 days after we lost Christian and 6 days after we lost Dennis. Betsy wasn't coping very well on her own as she is blind and Dennis was her guide piggy and Meg was showing signs of dominance over Patsy. Betsy is very dominant and I didn't want Meg to get ideas above her station. If you feel the time is right to attempt a bond between Rusty and Brillo give it a try they will either like each other or they won't. Good luck. Keep us informed how it goes.

You know them best so you’re better able to judge if the time is right. 🤞🏾 for good news.

anytime is fine, you know your piggies personalities.it can go either way,you can find some surprising bondings, some you think will go well do not ! you will know when you and your piggies are ready.xx

Thanks @Siikibam @Betsy @eileen you'd think after the number of times I've been here I'd feel more confident. Think I'm feeling a bit wobbly with all that's gone on the last few weeks. Bonding pen is ready for the morning, will let you know how it goes. I've a feeling this one will either go okay or be over in seconds. Rusty has never been any bother with bonding, he's the most laid back piggie I've met, although there is a first time for everything! Will keep you updated.

i hope all goes well ! ive had my fair share of failed boar bondings, but i like boars as they are upfront, usually 5 minutes in they are either clacking teeth, circling ,then a flying ball.or they act with mild rumbling, chasing then act as if they have been mates forever.though i seem to have had a lot of dominant boars.ill keep my fingers crossed for you.

All the best with today. I hope Rusty and Brillo get on like a house on fire…in a good way!

They've been in the pen for about an hour. Brillo's not worked out that Rusty's not in the least bit interested in being the boss.Brillo keeps mounting Rusty every which way, Rusty's not impressed. Brillo's just had a nap much to Rusty's relief. They've been eating grass side by side, lots of good signs. Have had to cover the front grids of the other boys pens as there's been far too much cheering from the sidelines. Lying down side by side now, fingers crossed. I'm feeling optimistic, as long as Brillo doesn't blow it!

Hope Rusty and Brillo decide they like each other today. Be ready with the oven gloves just in case!
I have my special oven gloves with guinea pigs on by my side just in case. At this stage they hopefully won't be needed. Brillo just got a smack on the nose with Rusty's chin, Rusty's had enough of Brillo sticking his nose (and other bits in his face!). Rusty's done this bonding malarky 3 times before, he's really not interested in Brillo's antics but I'm pleased he's not putting up with too much nonsense.

Ohh that sounds very promising. Brillo, you’re top pig. Just enjoy some company.

Oh, what a lovely set of updates. Boars can be the funniest and best of bondings to watch. It sounds like everything is going swimmingly and they will both have each other for company. Well done @piggieminder I know just how stressful it is when you've lost a piggy and then you have to consider attempting a bonding session.

So far so good! They are sleeping again now.
I've striped the cages down and done a deep clean. All being well with Rusty and Brillo in the morning we will take the big commercial cage appart, put higher legs on the table and build a C&C cage on the table, then move them into the cage. This is going to make cleaning the cages much easier on my back. Not so much stooping and twisting.

:wub::wub: Gorgeous piglets! I love seeing your boys, they’re all such stunners!
:yahoo:So pleased it’s gone so well for you all! Hope they have a good first night together :D xx
