I was pointed in the direction of this company by a colleague, a number of companies have signed up to reduce food waste, which is brilliant in the current cost of living crisis. You download the app and check to see what is in your local area.
Explore our app to find and save Surprise Bags of food
I tried it today. I paid £3 for a surprise bag from my local Spar, so you can imagine how pleased I was to get a bag that would have cost £26 at full price. 👍

It's a brilliant idea to cut food waste. There's a food bank in a town near us that does similar, it's for anyone to use rather than people who are in financial difficulty. My partner calls in there when he travels that way. We've had some interesting meals using up the food in combinations I'd never have thought of!

There's also an app called Olio which is volunteer led. Basically volunteers sign up to collect from supermarkets and then advertise the food on olio for others to collect. My mum's old neighbour does it and often turns up at my mum's with Tesco bread and bakery products

It’s brilliant until it gets popular 😂 I’ve not managed to get a bag for a long time as they go before I even know they are there! Enjoy it whilst it lasts 👍 (Olio on the other hand hasn’t taken off at all round here)

It's ideal for me when I'm on late shift, I check before I head home, order and my son picks it up whilst I'm at work. I've just got Gregg's for teatime tomorrow, that's the whole shift fed for £3. 😁

I also ordered a bag from my local herron foods which my good friend picked up for me not long ago but unfortunately it was mostly bread stuff that I don't like.I'm keeping the Warburtons thin bagels but everything else is going to my friend and brother lol.It is a surprise bag so you really don't know what you will get but I still think it's a very good idea.

Can you actually make a meal out of the contents? Or is it more snacks ?
It's mostly snacks/ready meals. That said, my last Spar bag contained packs of mashed potato, plus, fresh chili chicken breasts. Both went straight in the freezer, as did the pack of fresh fancy pork sausages from M&S. 😁

I tried a couple of places on the weekend and I must admit, I was really, really disappointed.

The first one fine, it's by nature a bit hit and miss and they could only have offered what they had left, I have no beef with them. The second one didn't honour the advertised value of the bag though (should be £9, pay £3 kind of thing), not even by the value of the pre-reduced goods, and they had clearly just thrown the worst four items they had in the shop in a bag (one was clearly off when I got it home). Kicking myself for not taking photos in case I actually did want to complain later, because now I do!

Do you guys find that most shops are good about these bags, or are there a lot of them taking the mick?
