My piggys are starting to stink up the house and I'm having to move them outside onto the balcony that is undercover. They will be living in a two story hutch with 2 sleeping areas and a water proof and draft proof cover. In the winter I will stuff the sleeping areas full of hay I will also provide cuddle sacks and about 6 cm of carefresh bedding. On extra cold nights I will also give them a cuddle safe. In Auckland (New Zealand) the lowest temperature it reaches at night would be 8 degrees (and that's cool for us). They would also come inside on really cold nights if I am worried about the temperature. The other option is to keep them in the garage but there is no lights and I don't want to leave them in the dark all day.
Do you think that I would be able to keep them outside If they have all these extras!
Please let me know
:help:

I think It would be okay, as long as they get time everyday out of their hutch.
how thick are the snuggle sacks? If not thick enough for the cold, try wrapping it in a towel or packing fleece in the sleeping spots.

PS. Compared to where I live, 8 degrees is spring/fall! In Winter (Canada) we get -30! Definitely not temperature to have piggies out in! :lol!:

I'm with piggie lover! Here in Canada the thought of having an outdoor pet of any kind is outrageous! I think if the coldest is 8 degrees they should be okay with lots of bedding, warm fleece hideys, etc. Definitely make sure they get time inside and check on them a lot once it gets cooler to see how they handle it! If they are going about normal activities they are warm enough :) if they become withdrawn though to hide from the cold perhaps it is better to keep them inside!

We use Celsius in NZ/Aus. I think they would be okay. As we move into autumn, my motto is if it's single digits over night, they must be inside. But I'm inland and in the mountains, so we can get to -6ish on a regular basis.

Thank you so much for the information. The piggys have 30 mins of cuddle time daily and have floor time every other day for 2 hours. They are also get hand fed every night, so I think its safe to say that the piggys get the interaction they need. The cuddle sacks they have now are only about 2 cm thick, so what I have done in the past is put a medium cuddle sack inside a large cuddle sack creating a warm and extra cushioned cuddle sack.
