I am a new owner of a rescue piggy called Fraggle - I'm in love already! He is approx. 12 months old.

This is probably a daft question, but is it normal for him to be pooping and peeing most of the time and everywhere?! i.e. he tends to 'go' all over his cage rather than in one preferred corner. Also, when I bring him out for cuddles and for floor time, he poops and pees at random then too, so I have to ensure I have a towel on my chest first and loads of towels on the floor... is this pretty 'normal' for guinea pigs, or could it be due to the fact that he came from a massive group of piggies when he was rescued?

I don't really mind either way, as it doesn't change how cute and adorable he is! :) But it would be nice to know whether it is just normal or whether it is a learnt behaviour when he was younger.

Thanks

x

Sounds pretty normal to me. You could try covering where you wanted him to go and maybe litter tray with hay in under where you.have covered.Any plans on getting him a friend

Glad to hear it's fairly normal...! Towels and liners it is then! :D

I was thinking of getting a pair when I went to the recuse centre, but fell in love with Fraggle because he had been taken there twice - first time round in the rescue, and the second time after having been rehomed (because of his past he didn't get on with other piggies and lost half his ear in a fight) :( so the rescue centre wanted him to go to a home with no other pets, so that he could have exclusive cuddles and playtime :)

When I first got Edward I could not believe how much one little animal could poo and poo and poo :D

Think.I read somewhere 200 a day per pig.So pleased mine are semi litter trained

Mine wee and poop everywhere. If you are observant you will notice signs he needs to go when you hold him. He may wriggle, move his bottom or nibble your clothes. I am so pleased you have given him a loving home.

Thank you :) I'm going to try my best to give him a cosy life - hopefully at least better than he had previously! :D bless him!

Omg, you won't believe how absolutely normal that is for a pig lol. Some times you get piggies who will 'warn' you they need the toilet during handling in a change of behaviour such as fidgeting and biting clothes and some times they'll just let rip and not bother. It is absolutely nothing to worry about :)

Yup! Normal! Luckily (or unluckily) for me, Barney doesn't like cuddles so isn't in my arms for long enough to pee and Toby lets us know by getting fidgety and nibbly when he needs to pee so it has been months since we have had an accident.

Their hutch is a free-for-all when it comes to pooing but peeing is mainly in the hideys on the hay - except for right at the bottom of the ramp - apparently they like that to be soggy!

Hehe thank you both. Glad to hear it's not just Fraggle then! :)

AbiS - you mention the ramp - Fraggle won't climb him! I've had to move his food down from the top bit (his hidey hole is underneath) because he would not climb to get to his food! I'm hoping he will try the ramp soon?! :D

Yes, one of ours was biting my clothes tonight, and I was thinking that it was strange as he'd never done that before. It was promptly followed by a big wee and many poos! I'll heed his warnings more in future. ;)

He he he.... yeah, Fraggle seems to save some of his poops for just after I've made his cage all nice fresh and clean..... I think they love a bit of poops around them! :/

Every clean fleece item in my cages must be weed on and pooped on within 5 minutes. It's a sign of acceptance! But boy can they produce a lot of waste for such little creatures!

Weird isn't ! I never realised until I adopted Fraggle..... I reckon if all their poop in 24hours was laid out in a pile it would be bigger than them! Soooo glad I'm not a piggy hee hee :D x
