I ahve jsut collected my piggies so i can clean there shed and noticed there's blood on the log bridge, i checked my piggies and noticed Pumpkins back toe nail is off and jsut a little stump :o i have no idea how she did it and there was no blood in the hucth to notify me except what i spotted on the bridge. I picked her up there's no wheeking in pain or anythng, is there a safe cream i can put on it to stop infection or anything.

I'm worried there all ok but how do i know it wasn't one of the girls who did it :-\

I was told to use baking powder (or that styptic powder if available) when trimming the nails if I cut into the quick and it started to bleed. Just dab a little bit on the area and it should stem the blood flow and prevent any infection occuring.

Is it possible to get to the Vet any time soon?

Good luck O0 Hope it clears up OK O0

One of my boys has just had the exact same thing happen to him. After a couple of days it became inflamed so he had to have antibiotics to treat the infection. The vet said the nail may grow back or may not.

Thankyou it must ahve happened another day not today as the bloods dried, is it ok if i use a wool pad and dab some salty water on the wound to clean it up abit? :-\

Thankyou, i'll do that tonight before they go abck cos there all getting a nail clipping :) poor little baby just merrily munching on ahy :smitten:

Just bathe it now and then keep an eye on it. My Pookie had it happen and it grew back fine!
