It is quite normal for Toby to tear a strip or two of newspaper occasionally and then eat it like spaghetti. However, the soundtrack for the ENTIRE day today has been rip....rriipp.................rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiipppppppppppppppppppp and it has been driving me up the wall! It is normally just the newspaper in the bottom of the run however today I watched as he pulled back the fleece and newspaper, anchored it with his feet so it didn't spring back and then shredded the newspaper underneath - little monster!

Surely this cannot be good for his insides. Is this boredom - in which case I can get more hideys and tunnels? Is there something missing from his diet?

They have plenty of space to run around, loads of hay and boredom breakers that they just ignore. I gave them some readigrass earlier to distract him, he ate that and then got back to the newspaper.

Any ideas about why he is doing this so much? Is this normal behaviour or something to be concerned about?

:)) I know this feeling well - Putt used to be a shredder...... Nothing I could do could stop her, used to try and distract her with empty kitchen roll stuffed we hay to attract her nibbling attention to that, it sometimes worked.

I can just see him, pulling the newspaper with all his might and enjoying the ripping sound :)) My girls irritatingly love kitchen roll, which I use to mop up 'spillages'.. they quickly walk over and try and eat it :)) Little ruffians :P

Mine do this too and it is really frustrating. Tim strips the wallpaper when he has floortime too if I don't catch him in time.

Mine do this - and then start on cardboard boxes.

He looks so proud of himself when he does it as well! They are normally well behaved when free-ranging as well but last night his teeth were around the oak coffee table leg, my sewing basket handle, a cardboard box that they have already been told is not theirs, and the wooden (cracket) stool made by my grandpa 35 years ago. It was like having a naughty toddler!

I wouldn't worry as much if he wasn't eating it! Thankfully we don't have wallpaper!
