We are having a 'bring your own food' Coronation street party tomorrow in our half mile long cul-de-sac, so the burning question in this house for the last week has been whether to make a quiche or not. Hub is not somebody who knows what he wants (only what he doesn't want) and can't make such important decisions quickly.
We have eventually compromised on making our own celebratory quiche with some asparagus, a little smoked salmon and potentially some peas to bulk it up after several failed attempts of mine to come up with something appropriately appealing as neither of us is all that fond of broad beans and hub lacked any ideas for non-quiche alternatives. Hub is responsible for making the shortcrust pastry and I am tasked with providing the filling.

Hub has made a big bowl with a Platinum Jubilee citrus trifle for the two of us for the weekend (with a couple of corners cut). We made the fully monty for us last year - and it was very delicious indeed!
I have made a Swiss carrot cake with ground almonds, spices and kirsch icing, which we have both started to tuck into today.

The rest of what we are eating are Easter dinners we had to put in the freezer or leave there because we were both too ill at the time but this means that we can indulge a bit more this weekend.

It should be dry and fairly warm here, if overcast.

What are your plans?

That sounds wonderful 🙂 We’re having just a small garden party / afternoon tea that my mother in law and father in law are hosting for me, hub, my Sister in law, her partner and my niece and nephew. We have sandwiches, quiche, scones with fresh cream and jam, cake and nibbles. I hope the weather is better than it was for the coronation. Have fun everyone x

My plan for tomorrow as it's forecast to be dry is to cut the hedge, wash piggy fleece and weed the flower beds. There's no Coronation parties round here, or Coronation anything that I've seen. When I was in Wales last week I saw lots of parties advertised and lots of shops had Coronation themed windows, it was nice to see.
I've not seen any footage of the Coronation yet as we don't have TV. I shall have a look at Youtube later, there's bound to be something there.

We are having a family dinner tomorrow - roast gammon.
We’ve had a Coronation afternoon tea today with Earl Grey tea in my vintage bone China. Food wise we’ve had a selection of sandwiches, scones and macarons. And plenty of fresh fruit. And some strawberry mousse that I threw together as an afterthought.
I never thought to make a platinum pudding - it was delicious last year. Especially when I doused the lemon Swiss roll sponge circles in lemon drizzle gin!

Your quiche sounds great! I also made mini quiches (bacon & mushroom), but just because I like them and I finally found duck eggs again! (I can’t eat wheat or chicken eggs)
The citrus trifle sounds excellent too

Thank you!

The quiche has turned out even better than expected. Hub made some really good shortcrust pastry and my filling with the hot smoked salmon and the classic trinity of first fresh spring veg of spring onions, asparagus and peas has worked out really well. The primavera veg filling will be great even without the fish layer.

It was nice to meet more neighbours and the kids had a grand time being able to play in the middle of the road!
I needed a lie down halfway through the afternoon when I was suddenly mugged by intense tiredness but we are very full and have had a good time. There were more groups up and down the road although our end was by far the biggest and liveliest.

The weather couldn't have been any nicer - mostly sunny and nicely warm.

He *made* the pastry?! That’s dedication and major points! Shop bought all the way for me!
I usually do the same but I must admit that the homemade pastry was actually so much better - really nice and crumbly!

It was either make the pastry himself or brave a manic supermarket to buy readymade pastry as we had forgotten to buy some. Hub used Paul Hollywood's recipe in the food processor (even though Paul would not be impressed with that).

We both like cooking, baking and adore tasty food and trying new stuff.
