I've read somewhere in the past that guinea pig moms coo to their young. So having read that I coo to mine when I am picking them up to take them out or when they are on my knee. Just want confirmation that this is OK. I don't want to scare them if that noise reminds them of a bird about to attack them.!

They will get used to it. I have three kids and the pigs are in the family room, and they are now pretty much immune to kid noise, television, the washing machine running (it's right off the family room), and other indoor sounds. However, they do perk up and pay attention to unusual noises- new voices and noises outdoors. Ironically they are unphased by shrieking kids but will stop dead and listen if a bird sings outside!
