Guinea pigs have a much finer nose than we humans do. They can smell you just from you being close to the cage and talking to them and interacting with them and if that smell comes with a food delivery, the association is not a bad one.
Putting a t-shirt in their cage would seem to me more like an invasion of their own space. they are most likely to pee on it and scent mark it as their own.
I find my boys respond to my voice, they recognise me from any one else in the family and once you have their trust they will happily let you pick up and cuddle no need for a scent detection
