Hello, I recently took my girls off of veg for a few days after a possible bloat. They’ve been back on veg for about a week but I am only now seeing tipped poop, I only saw four but it’s not normal for them. They eat oxbow adult Guinea pig pellets, Timothy & orchard grass blend. And for veg the usuals are green leaf lettuce & red leaf lettuce, sweet peppers, cilantro & parsley, cucumber which I rotate throughout the week with occasional add ins. We recently had to switch their water from filtered tap to Aquafina bottled water due to oil and chlorine, could the water change be the problem?

I plan on taking them off veg for a few days to see if it improves, if not I will be calling our vet but other opinions would be very helpful.
Thank you 😊

It would be a good idea for you to ensure you weigh them all daily for a while to ensure they are eating enough hay.
Also, as you know, take them off veg and see if they the increased hay intake helps redress the balance. See a vet if things don’t improve in a few days

Have you changed anything in their diets (apart from withdrawing veg for now)? If all your piggies are showing these types of poo it likely to be a change in their food/environment.

I have been experiencing this with my two boys for weeks and can only think it was due to a slight change to their hay type (they are now back on their normal hay, so we'll see how it goes). I went to see a vet with one of my piggies when it first happened, thinking it was bloat/digestive issues, but he said his gut was fine, no bloat/stasis. He suggested one cause could be stress (he'd broken a tooth the week before and wondered whether this could have been the cause), however, that wouldn't have affected my other piggy.

At least the poos you show are only slightly misshapen. Are they the usual firmness?

I hope you get to the bottom of it soon and they all get back to normal.

Thank you, they are of normal firmness it may be the water then seeing as it’s the only thing that has really changed and it’s happening in two separate cages. I will definitely be keeping a close eye on them though.
I wish you and your piggies well!
