Junior Guinea Pig
Hi everyone!
I brought Pumpkin into the vet today for a re-check since she started meloxicam last month. The vet was able to stretch her legs this time and she seemed extremely comfortable. She even put on a tiny little bit of weight so the vet thinks she must be feeling great!
It was almost a perfect visit, but unfortunately the vet discovered “the very beginning of a small pressure sore” on her front footpad. She says that’s in a very peculiar spot for a pressure sore and she isn’t worried about it. She just told me to keep an eye on it but doesn’t expect it to be an issue.
I assume that she may have developed that due to the limited mobility she had when her arthritis was bad. Now she’s a lot more comfortable. My questions:
Should I expect this to get any worse with proper intervention now? I’m gonna soak her foot and make sure to be extra diligent about cleaning the places she lays often. I looked at it myself and it’s honestly so unnoticeable that if my vet didn’t point it out I probably would’ve thought it was just a little dry skin flake (it’s tiny and white, with no bleeding, swelling, or ulceration).
I’m already jumping to the worst conclusion and assuming she’s gonna get worse and worse and lose her foot… Please help knock some sense into me lol.
If I can get a picture of it I will add it to the thread soon. The rest of her foot is fine and like I said earlier, there’s no swelling or anything. It’s just a tiny white spot.
