Hi everyone!

I brought Pumpkin into the vet today for a re-check since she started meloxicam last month. The vet was able to stretch her legs this time and she seemed extremely comfortable. She even put on a tiny little bit of weight so the vet thinks she must be feeling great!

It was almost a perfect visit, but unfortunately the vet discovered “the very beginning of a small pressure sore” on her front footpad. She says that’s in a very peculiar spot for a pressure sore and she isn’t worried about it. She just told me to keep an eye on it but doesn’t expect it to be an issue.

I assume that she may have developed that due to the limited mobility she had when her arthritis was bad. Now she’s a lot more comfortable. My questions:

Should I expect this to get any worse with proper intervention now? I’m gonna soak her foot and make sure to be extra diligent about cleaning the places she lays often. I looked at it myself and it’s honestly so unnoticeable that if my vet didn’t point it out I probably would’ve thought it was just a little dry skin flake (it’s tiny and white, with no bleeding, swelling, or ulceration).

I’m already jumping to the worst conclusion and assuming she’s gonna get worse and worse and lose her foot… Please help knock some sense into me lol.

If I can get a picture of it I will add it to the thread soon. The rest of her foot is fine and like I said earlier, there’s no swelling or anything. It’s just a tiny white spot.

Hi guys - here’s a picture of it. It definitely looks worse to me now that I can see it without her moving so much…I’m worried. The vet wasn’t very concerned (she’s a very experienced exotics vet just to make that clear) and didn’t want me to worry too much. I’m very worried this is going to escalate.

I check their feet often and have not noticed this until today. The vet didn’t think it was very bad and felt it didn’t require antibiotics, just some soaking and keeping an eye on it.

I know this sore has developed within the past month because my vet checked her feet in June and they were fine, not even a red spot.

Also I wanna add that it looks way worse & bigger in the picture than it does when you’re looking at it in person

One more thing! Just to keep everything together lol. The vet said it doesn’t look like bumblefoot to her, and that it probably formed when her mobility was bad (like I thought). Do pressure sores like these heal? I’m just worried it will *progress* into bumblefoot. Any insight is appreciated, thanks everyone!

It doesn't look too bad in my eyes. I think you don't have to worry too much as long as you follow the advice of your vet and keep s good eye on it.

Thank you so much for this! I’ve had many guinea pigs and have never had to deal with anything worse (regarding their feet)than maybe a tiny urine scald so I definitely was freaking myself out.
