in the last 4-5 days I have been seeing little black or brown bugs around the house mostly in my office. They bite but do not leave red marks or itchy skin, I know this because I have been bitten 4 times now. They don’t look like fleas or ticks. I’ve inspected Patchy (no point inspecting Coco as she is black) and she looks to be bug free and has otherwise healthy looking pink skin and I’ve not seen any bugs on their fleece. I’m wondering if they might have come from some hay I bought a week ago but it’s hard to tell from the photo’s on the internet as they are mostly blown up or under a microscope. My OH took these photo’s but they are really blurry and zoomed right in

They are definitely not guinea pig parasites, but you may want to get rid of them, anyway. It may be a good idea to ask what is safe to use with small furries in the house as products that are safe for cats and dogs can be lethal for guinea pigs.

We have just emailed the agricultural department at the university to see if they can shed some light on what they are and hopefully how to get rid of them.

Have you had a reply yet? What sort of bug are they? I don't like the those feelers! The freak me out:yikes:

No it's a bit early here yet, only 8:30 in the morning. My main concern was for Patchy and Coco but they appear happy enough and bug free as far as I can see.

8.30 is it 24th Nov with you or 23rd Nov? I get confused with the date line thing. It is 11.40 here on 23rd Nov and I am just about to retire to the old snore pit (the OH snores - I don't!)

Is Southampton in a different time zone to Jersey? It's 10.45 here!

Yes 24th here.

Ok so the university got back to us and they said the photo’s are to blurry to really tell what they are only that they don’t look agricultural or anything that would be from hay. My OH thinks they look like carpet bugs but theres about a million bugs on the internet that look very similar.

They look like little beetles... I wouldn't think that they would be an animal parasite or anything like that. We get weird bugs inside, including weird little beetles similar to those sometimes. I think they just come in from outside somehow!

I think Betsy might be so tired she typed 11 instead of 10 :)) but I did panic thinking I had stayed up too late
I have these clocks that are radio controlled, I checked three of them as I thought they had gone wrong
Oops yes girls I was tired last night sorry to panic you! (It had nothing to do with the bottle of celebratory wine I opened for maintaining my weight at Slimming World after going away for the weekend with my friend honest!)

I’ve also had these bugs. I thought they were from not cleaning the cage as often but i still find alive and dead ones all through out my bedroom. as in under the desk my guinne pig cage sits on, ive seen a few in the cage but i have never seen one on him. he has none on them but i’ve seen them on the wall and even on my bed dead and alive. i’ve sweeper under the cage and under my bed multiple times and i still find them, mostly dead though. i don’t know what they are or what their from.

They look like the tobacco beetle that feed on cereals in the kitchen. They eat tobacco aswell.. Not sure though

This is an old (old!) thread. It would be better to start your own thread.
