Well I got my 2 boys yesterday, Basil is absolutely fine and it didn't take him long to find the food, hay and water :(|) And today he comes out of his hidey hole when I talk to him.

Elvis, however, is the total opposite and is very, very timid and shy. He's in his hidey hole and I haven't seen him come out yet. Although i'm assuming he's probably ventured out when nobody has been around to get some food.

Apart from what i'm doing already which is getting him out for cuddles, talking to him and trying to reassure him, is there anything else I can do. I feel so sorry for him just being stuck in his hidey hole, and when Basil ventures out he doesn't follow him. I was also told the previous owner hadn't handled him much so maybe he's just a bit wary?

I wouldn't worry as this is completely normal. It's a huge change to him, new noises, new smells etc so it's going to take him a while to get used to his surroundings. For now I'd just leave them to settle in for a few days and personally I wouldn't handle them for a day ( I know how tempting it is! ) as they're going to be nervous for a while so let them find their feet first :)

They are prey animals though so in general will dart for cover in any case, ours still do sometimes, unless it's feeding time!

hiya haven't sussed out how to private message so here is my email address and if you want to meet up we can email mobile numbers. Stick with the piggies, when I got Zapp he was a shivering wreck and Whizz hides his head when i hug him its all about getting confidence in us as the owners I suppose and learning that they are safe

It sounds pretty normal to me. He's had a big change and needs to get comfortable in a new situation. If he's not used to being handled, that can factor in too.

My piggie Sundae was an extremely shy girl when we got her- she was about four months old and had not been handled often. We didn't even see her for days, though she was obviously venturing out to the food dish when we were not watching. We just keep handling her, feeding her treats, and so forth- she is now almost one and is an extremely outgoing pig... in fact, some would call her a mooch! She is always the first to wheek for food and to crowd the cage bars when we come by just in case we have time to cuddle or to give her a treat! A little time and love can work wonders.

i got my boys comfortable by swaddling them in towels while we held them for the first few days. it makes them feel secure, and if they want they can burrow down a little bit :)

Thanks for all the replies. I'm a bit happier now, went into the front room last night and he was out of his sleeping area and next to the food bowl :(|)
