Senior Guinea Pig
Today is 6 years since Ross went to pick up Tim from his original home where he had been kept in a hamster cage. A Gumtree advert had been shared on here and many members were up in arms quite rightly about his living conditions. I sent a message to the person who had posted the advert and did not really think anymore of it until I got a call at work (luckily I had left my work number on my voicemail on my mobile). They wanted us to take him and could we pick him up that day. Luckily Ross had taken our spare folding carrier to work in London just in case and so he was able to collect him. Only problem was, he had a work trip to take the people he looks after bowling that night, and could not get out of it, so Tim went too and was not phased at all by the noise. The situation with his cage was not as bad as first thought, yes he was in an Imac fantasy hamster cage but only overnight. Obviously we did not agree with this but it was an improvement on what we first thought. In the day he was in a hutch and run in the garden. Tim settled so quickly and in his time with us he has lived with Buzz followed by his beloved Sophie who we lost a few months ago. We were told he was a year old and so we are also treating today as his 7th birthday. We are still considering bonding him with a neutered boar but he has recently been diagnosed with a heart issue and narrowed airways so a bonding would not be the best thing for him at the moment. We do have a spayed sow but she is closely bonded with her friend and is also very feisty and dominant.
Tim is also our little miracle. A few years ago he developed a retrobulbar abscess behind his eye. I was warned against proceeding with an op but luckily I trusted our vet (Simon) and now years later he is still here with us, and there was no reoccurrence of any dental issues following his op.
Tonight will involve lots of cuddles and some of his favourite veg, though he is getting picky in his old age.
