Max's old cage was looking a bit yucky with wee stains in all 4 corners (plastic indoor cage base) so I went to tesco and bought 4 bottles of 13p value vinegar, chucked them in and left them over night, and washed and rinsed this morning and it has removed ALL the crusty wee! I'm really pleased. The base looks as new for 52p!

Do you think the same principle could work on a wooden hutch? The reason I ask is although I give my girls hutch a good scrub, I am looking for something other than soapy water and pet disinfectant.

might soak into wood and be hard to get rid of smell i would only use on plastic not wood

Niki used vinegar on my rabbit's litter tray when she babysat him and it was soooo clean when i got it back! I'm almost phobic of vinegar though i really hate it so shall be sticking with normal stuff :))

It really is brilliant isnt it! I've been using it for a while now, provided leave it in long enough it really cleans anything up. (also have to be careful when leaving it in the garden to soak... nosy doggies :)))

Well you learn something new everyday! I will be taking myself down to tescos later. I have always wondered how to remove the dreaded crusty wee stains.

I've been using it to clean cages since the beginning. I bought a cheap empty spray bottle and do a 50/50 solution of water and vinegar...works like a dream! :(|)

I'm going to give that a go when I get their new cage (if anywhere gets it in stock again!) so I can thoroughly clean out their old one - can't do it just now as I've no-where to leave them overnight.
