Teejay
Adult Guinea Pig
Hi all, my two 5/6 month old boars are just not getting along with each other, culminating in a proper fight, so they've now been apart for a couple of days and this seems like it might be a permanent situation.
I have them in a 3-storey cage, which is 100cm long and approx 50cm deep. Here's a pic:

The run is only put up overnight and during the day while we're at work (we have 3 cats).
So, one of the piggies gets the top two storeys, and the other gets the bottom storey and the run (when it's up). I was thinking of swapping them round every day, so they get a bit of a change of scenery! Does this sound like enough space for a solo piggie? They also come out for a half-hour run (separately) on the floor every day when I'm cleaning out the cage.
I'm also considering my options for the future........
option one: I could keep them as two solo un-neutered piggies (not ideal)
option two: I could get them both neutered and get them both a girlfriend (but I know that the cage isn't anywhere near big enough for two separate pairs of piggies)
option three: I could rehome one of them (un-neutered), get the other neutered and then, eventually, get him a girlfriend or two (and they could have the whole cage to themselves)
option four: I could get them both neutered, then, when recovered, rehome one of them and get the other a girlfriend (as above); I think that neutering him would give the 'rehomed' piggy the best chance of finding a perfect home.
It goes without saying that rehoming either of the boys would break my heart, but I really don't want to start 'collecting' piggies.......two, or maybe three at a push, is enough for me.......and I don't want to end up with a house full of cages, that's why we went for the biggest cage we could fit in.
This is one of the toughest decision I've ever had to make.............I want to do the best for my boys, but I have to think of practical issues as well.
What do you all think? Tracey
