This evening I have been giving my two very hairy boys a summer trim. Its exhausting grooming them as they make such a fuss, they never sit still and squeal and wriggle. I am gentle when I do it, although the neighbours may think I am torturing them! :(
Please tell me I am not the only piggie mum who has these struggles when it comes to haircuts/grooming. Any tips on keeping them calm?
The poor lads don't know it yet but they are being bathed tomorrow, that'll be more fun and games! rolleyes

No, I have already given Cariad a slightly shorter cut and will do so with Ceri as well!

My guinea pigs hate hair cuts.
They hate toenail trims
They hate baths.

They hate everything, except food. Hahaha!

It's actually funny to see them squirm when I clip the hairs around their bum. I am very careful in that area, but they really hate it. They wiggle their little legs. Eva doesn't really say anything, but the boys wheek so LOUDLY!

Good luck with the baths tomorrow. :)

Had to give Finlay a bum bath and a bum trim... he was NOT happy... on the plus side, his coat and skin have improved LOADS!

Phew I'm glad its not just me! They make it such an ordeal, it makes me feel really guilty. I have to keep telling myself that they will thank me when they are nice and cool. I was surprised at how much hair Gordon has! even though to look at you wouldn't say he was a long haired pig.

my pork used to dislike bath time or hair trimming (around the bum) and weed all over me for fear of the hairdrier.

But now, strangely, he loves it! He's very calm in the sink (he no longer has the frightened look he used to have), he gurgles when I pour warm water all over him, gently rub shampoo and rinse... During the hairdrying process (and trimming) he stretches out and does not protest when I fluff his fur.

I've done this since he was a very young pig and now do it so regularly that he seems to know the routine.

Oh - and giving him something to nibble on during parts of the process helps TREMENDOUSLY! His entire focus is on the food rolleyes

Ollie, my long-haired boy, has started to love being bathed and cut and will sit them and take it (especially since he knows treats are coming)

My other boy, Ollie, i make sure i cut him when no one is home since it sounds like i am killing him just giving him a bum trim. Also bathing him i also get soaked he is so crazy!

So no you are not alone, i feel your pain

Mine are a mix! Sylvester will happily sit and let you do anything to him but some of the others will scream the house down and wiggle as if their lives depended on it!

Caramel (my avatar) screams as if she is being murdered when being trimmed but will happily be bathed.
Marty will stand and be trimmed but will jump out of the bowl when being bathed.

Barbra - short hair so no trimming - she'll scratch all your skin off to get out of water!

aren't they funny little critters :))

but you are definitely not the only one ;)
