Those who move their pigs inside for winter when roughly do you put them out again?

The title is self explanatory but also how do you bed them down once you move them out side? Mine will be on fleece still as they are now as I love it and so do they! They have a small dog bed with a double thick soft fleece cat bed inside it with a double layer fleece cover connected on one side so they burrow under it (like a really big snuggle sack really!) I use a snuggle pad atm at night too. Although they are inside our conserveratory in their hutch it has no heating and is cold at night. We are already finding it warm in the day from the sun as it's south facing. I guess I would still do the same bedding set up over summer and as summer nights are cold still use the snuggle safe or is this not necessary? Thanks in advance :)

I dont think theres a proper right or wrong answer to this question. I suppose i will be starting to think about moving the boys outside in April/May time. If its mild in April they will be out, but i'll see what the weather turns out like. I usually pick a mild/warm and sunny day so its not too cold for there first night out. (ive usually had them out on the grass during the days before putting them out perminantly for the summer). The bedding sounds fine for now, you can have a snuggle safe if you wish so long as they have space to move away from it if too warm. I wouldnt put so much bedding in, especially in the hieght of summer. Piggies can really suffer with the heat, so keeping them cool on warm summer nights is better.

Hope this helps a little.

Easter

I tend to aim for the school easter hols, early April, but they do go into a shed in hutch and C&C so its still quite cosy. But with our weird weather if its very cold i'll just wait until it warms up.

thanks, it's tricky indeed. It got really warm in our conserveratory on thursday whilst I was at work I didn't get home until 2.30 ish and it was way too hot for them. I am considering putting them out sooner as on the days I work they are more at risk from the heat in there than the cold at night outside. I think the conserveratory is still very cold at night and not too different from out side yet they are very snuggly and warm with the set up I have. I also have a weatherproof cover and some carpeting I can cover the hutch with for now and feel certain they will be fine.

Around Easter, but obv if its still a cold spell then they stay in a little longer.

I tried to keep them in last year but my OH was not having it. But I am refusing to put them out unless he makes me a new hutch :) Aka a big one -c

If you're only putting them out during the day, then start now! It's been fairly mild recently, and looks set to only get milder! So if you put them out before you go to work and then bring them in when you get home, it's not going to have that much of an impact on them. It's still a bit too cold over night to leave them out, but once we're into the mid-teens it should be fine :)

Hi, my lap top has been in for repair hence late reply, but they are out f/t now as the weather was too warm to keep them inside during the day and it wasn't possible to put them out in the day and in over night as didn't have a spare hutch/cage for inside. They are still doing brilliantly and weights have not tailed off at all. I wonder if they are even warmer outside as when I go out in the morning they are always on top of their house/bedding together rather than huddled inside/underneath on their snuggle safe heat thingy. I have now removed some bits and they still seem happy they've even had some time out on the grass next to their bunny pal when I am home and it's warm enough :)
