Hi, i was just wondering how you keep the fleece clean from pees and poops? are your piggies trained to use one corner, a litter tray etc? or do you just wash them every couple of days?

at the moment i keep mine on a layer of shavings, but would love to switch to fleece, especially as winter is on its way

Hi Cami,

Welcome to the forum - I have a hay tray that's lined with Megazorb and hay, then they have vet Bed in there main area. I sweep there poo's once a day, the urine wicks though the Vetbed which I clean every 3 -4 days, under the vetbed I have incontinence pads.

Which is all washed in Trigene, in the washing machine but I give it a good sweep and put it in washing bags to stop my washing machine blocking.

HTH.

Fleece is washed without soft rinse so the wee wicks away. This means its always dry to the touch and nice for the piggies, however it does need an absorbant layer below.

My layers consist of pampers disposable baby changing mats, then a matress protector, then a fleece. I change this every 4 days (the disposable mats are thrown away, everything else is washed and reused)

You really need two cage sets so you can change over quickly, and some people use puppy training pads or newspapaer instead of the pamper pads. Or towels instead of matress protector, However I have found my set up best for me. :)

I poo clear twice a day. Once in the morning when i get up and once before i go to bed. It takes me maximum 3 minutes. :)

You can do this by hand (then wash them after) Or using a poop scoop (one with little holes so the poo doesnt fall through) oryou can pick up the fleece and shake it out somewhere (like the lawn) :)

Can I ask what Trigene is and how big are the incontinence pads? And do they wash well? I use puppy pads but i dont find them that great

I used to use puppy pads but they are far to expensive or environmentally friendly , I bought incontinence pads in bulk (10 pads) sizes.

It's an inch short for a 3x2 I use it to line the living area then they have a 1x2 hayloft with megazorb and hay.

thanks for the responses, i think i may try out the fleece for them as it looks so much better and i'm sure it must be warmer for them as well

does anyone know if it at all possible to toilet train a guinea?

I've toilet trained my buns and they now have nice fleece and would love the same for my piggies :)

I don't think piggies are as smart as Buns, mine certainly aren't trained but they do toilet more in there hay trays only because they like to eat and poop in the same area! :))

Excellent I'm going to buy some of those incontinence pads, for the same reason, puppy pads are so expensive.

Although costly initially, I've had mine since February! The only downfall is they can take a bit of time to dry and all your neighbours may think you wet the bed. :)).

He he, burst out laughing. I'll be using a horse inside then lol.
Stacey I'm trying to get together a Scotland meet up after the New Year if you fancy it? There's a thread in the announcements section :) x
