i don't know how many people have seen me mention in my posts that i have a two storey hutch.
well, if not, you do now =] and i need help returning it.
i bought it about a month ago (i need to check how long exactly) and i've had nothing but trouble with it.
the ramp's broken at least twice; it's done it just now and i can't even get it back on because it's flat-packed and doesn't fit in the gap. so now i've had to close off the upstairs level.
there are also gaps running along the closed-off room on the top level and between the bars that seem to be exactly the right size for poop to roll into and then get stuck. there's a small wedge of hay, poo and pellets down there that looks disgusting and i have to constantly pick out with scissors. most of it i can't actually get out and will likely be there forever. i've had to put sellotape over the gaps to try and prevent this but it doesn't work.
so these two problems have made me seriously consider emailing the manufacturers and complaining. i got it from Just For Pets, and as I can't afford to just go out and buy them something new I'd really like a refund or exchange for something better.
Do any of you guys have experience or advice with returning hutches? As the pigs have been living in it there's some damage done to the ramp and wood due to chewing, but idk if they'd still accept it as if there's a problem they wouldn't re-sell it anyway?
I was also wondering if there was some sort of warranty on hutches and cages, so if you're not satisfied you can return them? I paid for it and my dad collected it and there was no mention of a warranty, but surely if it's a big product there should be one on it?
Sorry for the long post that probably doesn't make sense, I'd just really like some advice as I'm coming to the end of my tether. This hutch cost me £70 which I borrowed off my parents and it's been one problem after another. I just want somewhere nice for my pigs to live! =[

Hi, the only problems Ive had weith hutches came from p@h ... when it rained, they flooded my poor bunnies :( (my piggies were fine btw :) ) I e-mailed them and they gave me some indoor cages to lend until mine dried out and also some hutch huggers, so that it wouldnt happen again.. it hasnt! They wouldnt admit it was a fault.. said it was a goodwill gesture (even though the piggies hutch was fine and 1 was MUCH worse than the other!) but I was really happy with the result!
Have * mailed them?

i'm trying to find the receipt so i can be as specific as possible.
do you think there's a chance i might be offered a similar solution, as this is getting to be unhygienic? although idk what else they could offer apart from a replacement.

You could contact trading standards to see what your rights are, but I believe that anything sold has to be 'fit for purpose', and it would seem that your hutch isn't - so you might have a case! Good luck

choose your words carefully and emphasise how much you enjoy shopping at their store, that this is a one off but is spoiling your experience. Mention the hygiene issue HEAVILY and finish off by saying that as animal lovers, you trust they'll understand your concern, bla, bla, bla... A written note is also more powerful if they refuse to help, for legal reasons, you have proof...

yeah, i agree! thats what I did, and thanked them for each quick response, and they called me also..and i asked if there had been other problems/complaints with that model, also giving facts.. got to say the customer service was really good and I was shocked at them giving me hutch huggers.. they are about £50 each for my hutch. Good luck! Let us know how it goes! x

just thought i'd share, i phoned the manager of Just For Pets and explained the situation. she says as long as I bring the hutch down assembled and with the receipt they'd be happy to refund or do an exchange. i explained about the wear-and-tear and she said it doesn't matter as they take it into account every time they do a refund. hopefully i can take it down on saturday as i'm moving house so we can use the removal van. she was really kind, and said that they put the welfare of their customer's animals first, so if the product doesn't do what it says on the tin they will always try to help with a refund.
so there's hope for pet shops after all! =D
