but I gave Jerome and Barney some cucumber, pepper and little gem lettuce earlier, and although there's still some left, they're fighting over this one piece.

is it normal? is this just normal boar dominance behaviour?

This is so normal. Guinea pigs will always fight over food even if there is plenty to go round! :)

It could be dominance, but as far as my 3 are concerned it is normal, they are like kids and all want the same thing, they want the piece each other have!

thank you :)
i guess seeing as its my first time owning piggies i'm gonna be over cautious ;)
over-protective mummy syndrome.

In my pig keeping experience, the food that tastes best is the food in another piggy's mouth!

I was the same and still am, I am on this forum everyday and wouldnt be without it now, the people and knowledge is brilliant, Ive learnt so much.

My girls will squabble over the same piece of food quite often. You know how the grass is greener on the other side of the fence? The treat is also tastier in the other piggie's mouth! Actually, one of my girls has developed a habit of grabbing food and then running backwards away from her cagemate just to maximize her chance of keeping the food herself!
