I really like this 3 story cage. I fancy it for my 2, possibly 3 sows. My only question is with the wood platforms its worries me that they may get a little weed on and smelly so was wondering if its safe to paint them. In a gloss type paint rather than a wood stain (maybe even a pink gloss type paint!) Is this safe within a guinea pig cage? are there any paints specificly for this purpose

Thanks

Hey, that cage looks amazing!
what cage have you got now?

to be honest, I would not risk paining the wood platforms. there are some non toxic paints but still. maybe put a thin layer of some sort waterproof material, then fleece on top?

Thats a good idea, Thanks

Its lovely isnt it, I have a ferplast 120 at the moment for lily and her 3 babies but they are going to need more space soon and after measuring the space they live it isnt going to accomodate the 150cm cage I originally fancied. so I'm going to have to go upwards rather than outwards. mummy babies have no issues with ramps. they are like little bullets! 1 possibly 2 of her babies are girls so will be staying with her.

I have the 2 storey version of this - the ramp has a fleece over mine and I put newspaper then a fleece on the wooden platform - I have no problems.

Hubby has given me the thumbs up to buy it! I just wondered if anyone could show me a picture of where the hole is situated in the bases? is it central or to the side? Its hard to tell from the photos :) Just trying envisage where their bits n bobs will go

Hiya, i used to have this cage for my piggies. The hole for the ramp is right in the middle of the cage, which I always thought was a ridiculous design fault! But I used vetbed for bedding, so I just cut a hole in the middle of the vetbed.

Apart from that, the cage is great! I cut smaller pieces vetbed to fit the wooden platforms, and that ended up being my piggies' favourite place to sleep! I think they liked having a vantage point.

Oh, just remembered that the cage has some very sharp edges (not in contact with the piggies), but just be careful when you're reaching into the cage to clean out - I still have the scars to show for it! LOL!

ah thats great! your piggies will love it!
can you see where the ramps are in the photo, thats where the hole is, i will try to find a photo.
you said they have no problems with ramps, but if they do, because sometimes those ramps are soo steep, try making it into a tunnel. that way they wont jump!

I agree. The cage looks really good, but you can never be too sure about toxic chemicals...

i was just wondering if you had bought your cage yet (it looks brill drool) i bought a cage from the same place using a voucher from www.myvouchercode which gives you another 15% off of the sale price but its for new customers only, every penny counts.:)

You could use lino tiles. Just an idea. :)

I have one of these cages for some rescue piggies and its great. I have covered the wooden floors with self adhesive lino tiles. Easy to clean ect. I would warn you that the top level is a bit awkward to clean as the front opening door on that level is small and the large door is on the top, I'm only small and need a stepladder to enable me to get right in to pick up the poop and I have to take the top cage off to clean. :)) Also, the door edges are pretty sharp on the outside and do catch me out now and them. (Not sharp at all for the piggies though).

this cage is excellent i have recently ordered 2 as the price was so good, the hole is right in the middle so i have cuut a thick piece of wood to go in there with holes and tied it to the actual cage base and reinforced from underneath
both cages are being used for 2 piggies in each
really worth having

This is the cage I have my eye on too. I'm glad to see positive feedback on it! I'm not sure if the wooden shelves come out, but if they do then fablon could be another idea. Fablon is waterproof and will wipe clean and comes in different colours.

the shleves had slits in the sides to hook on the cage sides, the ladders have hooks that hook into the cage bases
